tuning of tRD (Performance Level) on P45

post #1 of 2
Thread Starter
I am trying to optimize my "Performance Level" setting and I have been reading this: http://www.anandtech.com/show/2427/8
and making some calculations but my results are off by a huge margin, check this out:

CAS = 5
tRD = 9
FSB = 478
Strap = 333 Mhz
Ratio = 1:1

so: 9 - 5/1 = 4
x/N = 2.75 for FSB > 465
4 > 2.75

but the mobo will not post at this setting, in fact it should post also at tRD = 8 but it doesn't, but it will post at tRD = 10, and if I lower the CAS to 4 then it will also not post at tRD = 9 at first (but if I boot at tRD = 10 then go into the BIOS then lower the tRD to 9 and save the settings, it will boot after that at tRD = 9)

I have four memory modules in my system, 2xCorsair twin2x6400C4 (2x1 GB) and 2xG.Skill PI-B 6400 C4 (2x2 GB)

The Aandtech article refers to the older X48 chipset. P35, X38, and X48 are made on the same process and have similar memory controllers.

P45 cannot handle as tight a tRD as these earlier chipsets. Indeed if you are stable at a tRD of two higher than what you could get on X38/X48/P35, you should count yourself lucky.
