Build:
CPU: 4770K
MOBO: MSI Z87 GD 65
GPU: 2X EVGA 680 SC SLI 2GB
RAM: BALLISTIX 16 GB 1600MHZ
HD: 256 SSD ,1 TB 7200RPM 32 CACHE
PSU : CORSAIR HX 1050
CASE: CORSAIR 900D
MONITOR: 3X 30 INCH U3011
COOLING: 360 EK WATER COOLING

Hi my names dave and i am in between a rock and a hard place on this decision. I just currently aquire a third 30 inch monitor and am running 7680x1600 res for gaming and my 2 gtx 680 2gb isn't cutting it so i am planning on up grading to either 3x 780 or 2x titan with possibilities for a 3x titan in the future depending on my vram needs. Heres the problem, i just bought the i7 4770 with the msi gd65 6 days before my got my third monitor so i have 7 more day to return it. My choices are returning the mobo for a z87 maximus for a plx 3 way sli or returning both the mobo and CPU and goin with the lga 2011 with 3930k and a true 3 way sli mobo. I have been googleing the benchmark difference between plx 3 way sli and lga 2011 and come up empty. it would be a waste to grab a lga 2011 since i dont need the extra cpu or ram slot for gaming and if theres no difference between plx vs lga 2011 3 or 4 way sli then ill just replace the mobo. HELP!

2011 has more dedicated PCIE lanes..I vote for that over PLX chip.Plus..new x79 chips next month ph34r-smiley.gif

the extra ram and 6 core cpu will have no added benefit for gaming or anything else i would do. I like to spend on what i can benefit from not needlessly wasting cash lol kind of a oxymoron spending this much on gaming. i just want to know what kind of a bottle neck are we talking about with the 3x sli on plx with 3x30. I haven't found one proof yet beside ppl posting about it with nothing to back them up such as experience or related review.

With LGA1150, you aren't looking at a bottleneck with the PLX chip. The difference between the PLX chip versus the 40 lanes of LGA2011 is miniscule.

However, the difference in raw CPU power on the i7-4770k versus something like the i7-3930k is massive. And in the case of running three Titans on 7680x1600, you are going to be limited by raw CPU power if you choose to go LGA1150. Even the mighty 3930k will sometimes be unable to utilize the raw power of three Titans, so you might not notice max usage on your GPUs.

In your case, you wouldn't needlessly be wasting cash on going LGA2011. You will need all the brute force CPU power you can muster to hopefully not bottleneck three Titans.

my 4770k is currently oc to 4.6 and i have read many review that the 3770k wont even bottle neck the 3x titans

just a added question, how u can any1 even fit 4 gpu on z77, z87 on that last slot. never planing to go 4 way sli but even with water cooling it seem impossible to fit a 4th gpu on that last slot with the connecters in the way
