looking to buy used ram, for amd, need info

Thread Starter
I see on craigslist there are some 3x2gb kits for $30, and I want to pop on something like that or similar.
2 slots free max 4gb for slot, 4 slots total, current 2x2gb
I currently have a kingston ddr3 1600mhz 2x2gb kit
is there much of a difference in intel and amd ram?

Here is a example while its still up
http://austin.craigslist.org/sys/3948134294.html
Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 1600 MHz (PC3 12800) - $30

I have mixed ram in some ddr1 machines, and it work, how about the newer ddr3?

Thanks,
Higgins909

If the voltage and timing are the same then you should be fine.

As long as the RAM is close in specs compared to what you have they should work together just fine. RAM is RAM, it doesn't matter if it's meant for Intel or AMD.

Now some RAM will not work at it's max speed like +2400Mhz on an AMD system, because AMD processors are not made to handle that fast of RAM, but it should still work at it's default settings.
