Wow.

I see that the point went right over your head. Sony doesn't have to provide better APIs than Microsoft. Developers make up for the difference. Why do you think that some graphics engines look better than others? It's because developers go above and beyond the native capabilities of the provided/stock APIs. Consider your mind blown.

.

not to mention, the Xbox 360's name. Why is it 360?

The name Xbox 360 is supposed to reflect that it was designed to be the "center of your entertainment experience", by playing games, connecting to Windows PC's to retrieve media, playing DVD's and the now-defunct HD-DVD. This is coming more into fruition over time as they add integration for things like Netflix, Twitter and ESPN. Therefore, the 360 is referring to 360 degrees of a circle, which correlates to the description of "center of your entertainment experience".

It's a good thing these consoles can do more than just gaming, otherwise, there'd be weeks/months at a time when it'd just sit there never being touched like a big eye sore..7-8 years from now when these consoles are grotesquely outdated, it'll be the "amenities" that tide me over, just as Netflix, Youtube App, System Video Player, the Machinima Apps are doing now.

Wasted money & time to reinvent the wheel....

essentially tossing out the last 5 years of advancements and starting over fresh. May pay off visually at the end, but at the expense of not being seen until the end of the console's lifetime.

Wasted money and time? Have you seen the impact PS3 exclusives have had? A ton of the PS3 exclusives have really set the bar for console graphics, story and immersion thanks to their hard work and really being anal with way more than just the API and tools they had at hand. They made their own schedulers and routines that weren't there in the first place, which payed off in HUGE amounts. If they thought it'd be worth while and necessary, then really it's not so silly after all is it? They're not idiots rolleyes.gif

you're just talking about first party exclusives. Games are meant for gamers, but they're also meant to make somebody money. 3-4 year development cycles don't scream "money bags" to publishers.

It's great that exclusives can take advantage of that, but that's with 40+ million dollar budgets and being backed by Sony themselves. Certainly not the "norm"

There is a real possibillity(exuse my spelling) that newer version
or update x1's and ps4's might even have newer apu installed on future
models.

The only benefit down the road from future iterations will be lower power use, cooler, and probably smaller form factors.

They can't actually incorporate new hardware unless they wanted to alienate the millions of users that bought the console early in the life cycle.

Don't think it will really matter tbh...I bet M$ will pay devs to make both versions look the same, or even make the PS4 versions look worse.
