For better or for worse most games now days are multi platform. That means developers have to build their games around the lowest common denominator. This is what will limit the usefulness of hUMA and the controller touch pad on the PS4, it is what makes the XBO's kinect 2 less useful then what M$ would like to think, it is what makes the Wii U's controller screen mostly an expensive gimmick.

Due to PC's and the other consoles not having the same type of GPGPU prowess as the PS4 it is a very strong possibility that it ends up being of limited use in the same way as GPU PhysX. So as an example the XBO version would look like Borderlands 2 and the PS4 version would look like like Borderlands 2 with PhysX enabled ect.

The interesting thing will be to see how this plays out in relation to PC's. Will PC's be able to duplicate the PS4's GPGPU effects or will there actually now be things consoles can do that the PC can't.

If the PC's are still able to handle the same tasks as the PS4 then its possible that we will see a split where PS4 and PC shares a lot of titles and the XBO goes off to do its own thing with exclusives that rely on the Kinect 2 in order to function.

not another xb1 damage control thread. not at all.

i don't really see how sitting on your hands and saying, "does anything matter really? i mean it's all ultimately subjective" really contributes to intelligent discussion

I think overall experience that the Xbox One brings to the table outweighs the lack of some of the finer details in the visuals.

I'm not going to fret over less AA or other a switch between HDAO and SSAO...

I don't need to be stroking the PS4's shell to have an opinion of my own.

it doesn't really require one to be a fanboy to see that ps4 is the obvious choice for traditional gamers this gen. unless you think the wii was the obvious choice last gen

I'm glad that they're enforcing the kinect (as per today's announcement)

It means that it will remain an integral part of the Xbox experience and will be too hard for the developers to ignore now.

Plenty of traditional gamers haven't had a reason to care about Kinect because it was still in its infancy with the 360.

Who cared about HP's touch screen in the 1980's? Not many because it was a flakey experience with 0 support. Who would deny a touchscreen's usefulness today though?

Same scenario can apply to the kinect.

Ie: Surely cars in the early 1900's weren't as practical as horses, doesn't mean they shouldn't have started laying down roads...

progress is defined by context. this is the same company that thought people wanted wanted touch screens on their productivity os. it's like got ballmer got caught napping, so he overcompensated and swerved off the road into a ditch.
