Hardware Labs Black Ice GT Stealth Lite 120mm Radiator - Wrong screws?

Thread Starter
I purchased this rad new from Specialtech and it arrived this morning. In the box was the rad and two sets of screws. The long ones which are now holding my Corsair SP120 to the rad, and the shorter set which are too long to bolt the rad internally, to the back of the case.

i get about halfway down the thread and it hits the end, any more and it'd puncture. The rad is wobbling in it's place. Obviously either I'm missing something, or they've sent me the wrong screws here? The shorter screws measure 12mm. 10 of which is thread, 2 is the head.

My case is an NZXT Phantom 410.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Here's a quick pic of the rad in the new case, and the screw sticking out (tightened by hand, touching the rad fins).

use some washers...problem solved.

Surely as a new boxed product though, they'd supply said washers if they were needed? I don't really fancy the idea of screws sticking out of the case, or using washers inside as the radiator has a gasket that it won't make contact with if I have the gap. :\

Nope they wouldn't

I believe those screws are for 38MM fans and are perfectly sized for them.

You can buy these which are made for 38MM but are threaded all the way down for smaller fans and will allow you to mount through a case with either size fan.

If you don't want that much excess on the stud they are available in a shorter size as well. They are available in M4 which is the correct size for your radiator.

On either size the threads stop at 25MM so what is below that thumb screw is a flat solid piece of metal that is designed for you to use pliers to get a good tight fit into the rad. The M4 threads that go into the rad are stopped by a flat ring so that you don't go to far into the radiator and to give something to tighten against.

From Koolance.

25MM
38MM

$3 per fan (set of 4) comes with the thumb screws and the stud. You can mount them firmly into the radiator and never worry about taking them out of the radiator again. No worries of piercing your rad or damaging the threads from taking them in and out.

The short screws might be for use with open frame fans where the fan is screwed to the rad using only the bottom edge of the fan frame? Then it doesn't matter how thick the fans used are.

10mm is way too long for mounting a rad straight to a case. 6mm works pretty well I think. Rads don't generally come with screws to bolt directly to a case, just the fan screws. All the ones I have bought any way.
