boot issues with GA-X79-UP4 regarding USB devices

the OS is installed on a OCZ Vertex 4...

For whatever reason, if my controller OR the external hard drive is plugged in before turning it on, the window logos doesn't even show up at all, with the "Windows Starting" stuck there in limbo.

Remove the usb devices, and it boots into Windows fine and the devices can be still used afterwards.

What's with this weird quirk? This CAN fool you, and almost me (i thought the SSD crapped out) when i just randomly thought maybe it's the USB thing (First time it happened the external HDD wasn't plugged in, but other things were like the x360 wireless controller receiver was in)

It's not the external HDD at all, it's something else. mad.gif

System info is in the "NEW SOVIET GLORY" rig, fyi.

Try booting it with one USB device attached at a time. If the first time this happened the HDD wasn't attached but the wireless controller was, unplug the wireless controller and plug the HDD in and try to boot. If it works, take it down to one item at a time and see if you can find the problem device.

If that still doesn't get you any where try booting into safe mode with a USB device attached...if it boots then your problem is that Windows is loading a bad driver at start up that is causing all the ruckus.

If it fails every time regardless of what's plugged in and even in safe mode, it could be that the USB controller on the motherboard is over or under volting at power on...in that case the mobo could start slipping shortly, or it could last you another three years with no other problems. Hard to tell...

Hope that helps! Keep us posted.

it boots fine with external HDD fine, only.

I try the same with only the 3rd party Rock Candy xbox controller, and this also happened with the wireless receiver as well. If one of those is plugged in at start, Windows is stuck there.

There's something weird with the wireless adapter, i've went through obtuse steps to get the wireless receiver to work on my FRIDGE KOMPUTAR,
like messing with the device manager, random crap, i forgot what i did but i got it to work on that computer.

Apparently, the same fix is not on NEW SOVIET GLORY, so something about it makes Windows stall.

it wasn't even the USBs AT ALL.

the problem was my vertex 4, with only 25gb space left, windows starting to choke every time you reboot it, only on the 4th or 6th attempt did it boot into windows.

with 105 GB free space, no issues anymore.

-_- does this happen with hard drives?
