1 liter would have been enough but I wouldn't personally buy mayhem stuff anyways. I said mayhem because if you have to have colored water from some company it might as well be them. They seem to be one of the best quality fluids... but paying money to possibly lower the performance of your loop just for a neat color has always been on my not to do list.
I am a huge supporter of using ethylene glycol in water loops. The only source that I can buy local aside from an automotive store is swiftech hydrx which has dyes and uv reactive particles in it
That dazmode stuff is clear. So I would love to have some of that. The ethylene glycol will lubricate your pump and it will stop corrosion dead in its tracks. It is also highly toxic so it will keep algae from growing in your system. You could easily see a very long fluid life with that stuff.
Use red food coloring if you want red water.
I would recommend that you flush your radiator by hooking it up to the faucet. You may need to run to the hardware store to buy a fitting to do it but those are cheap. After you flush your radiator I would recommend you fill your loop with distilled water and run it for a few days. Then drain it and re-fill it with the water/EG/color solution. That way you can be certain you have nice clean water with a well flushed radiator and with the EG you can run the loop for a very long time without changing the fluid.
I am glad they found those fittings for you and it is a good thing you went with black. Not a lot of fitting manufacturers I trust with nickel plating. In fact I just had a brand new nickel plated SLI bridge destroy my loop. It was horrible took forever to clean. All the blocks where clogged... funny thing to is it was the first time I ran the system without EG which would have kept the system under control even with the failed plating.
Also being that the radiator you have is of questionable manufacture (meaning I don't know who made it) the EG will guarantee no problems if they went crazy with TIN solder. I know Danger Den at one point was going a lil crazy with the TIN and I think Mo-Ra as well so you would get corrosion from the TIN mixed with Copper. EG will inhibit things like that.
Enjoy your kit.Edited by givmedew - 8/23/13 at 8:49am
