no, it has less cuda cores but more ROPs, a wider mem bus and can get a bit better boost speed with gpuboost 2.0

at the end of the day i'll be willing to bet if you stuck two systems in front of someone with a 7970 and 770 both overclocked, they wouldn't be able to tell which is which except for playing tomb raider and hitman absolution. and 2gbs is still plenty for games. just because a game will allocate more that 2 doesn't mean it needs it.
case in point a BF4 alpha bench that someone tried saying it needs more that 2gbs:
