[Solved] Registry Cleaner worries

Thread Starter
I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but here is what my dilemma is:

About 2 weeks ago, I ran CCleaner, and used its registry cleaner. Like an idiot, I blindly hit "Fix all selected issues" and continued.

My PC still worked fine afterwards. 1 week later, I did the same thing again, very stupid of me. Once again, the PC seems to work fine.

But now, I am worried that I may have ended up doing something that affected my machine. Luckily, as if I weren't an idiot (as if biggrin.gif), I backed up the registry changes from both times I have ran it.

My question is, should I restore those entries (starting with the more previous one, and then restoring the first one), and then run the cleaner again, but CAREFULLY sort through the entries (a failed photoshop install comes to mind) to satisfy my paranoia? Or should I just be careful from now on, seeing that my machine appears to be working okay? I ask this because I don't want to be taking any unnecessary risks with my registry anymore guiltysmiley.gif

E: I don't know if this should have went under the "Windows" or the "Other Software", please forgive me if I was wrong.

I never even read what is on the registry list unless something odd is happening or I suspect a problem. If your computer is working fine, it's working fine. You can cause problems aggressively cleaning the registry, but it's not guaranteed or even very likely like you seem to think.

I use Auslogics Registry Cleaner once a week. You'll be fine, I've been using registry fixing software for years. It corrects issues that Windows develops over time, so unless you don't trust the programmers knowledge of the Windows registry I don't see why it would worry you. Mostly registry cleaners only remove registry keys left behind by software that was previously uninstalled, rarely it actually even touches stock Windows settings.

it doesn't delete anything that will harm you.

Okay, thank you all for the help. If it really is true that CCleaner doesn't usually remove anything important, and that my system is stable (only time can tell), then I see no reason for me to have to restore. I will of course, proceed with caution from now on. It just made me very nervous, with so many people claiming that registry cleaners of all kinds are the devil, and that you'd have to be an idiot to use one (there are several people on these forums, of course), yet there are plenty of people out there that actually use CCleaner's registry cleaner quite regularly (the people in this thread and plenty of MajorGeeks members), and say that they have had no problems. Once again, thanks for the re-assurance. At the moment, I see no reason for myself to restore thumb.gif

I can report that for as long as I've been CC I haven't had any problems and I clean the crap out of my registry daily.
