CPU for Video Encoding

Thread Starter

It's been a while since I've checked into this aspect of CPU's. Last I remember, and X6 had a slight edge over a 2600k in video encoding. Is this a true statement? How does the FX 8 Core stack up to the Thuban X6? How does the better of the two stack up against a Ivy i7? Haswell i7?

If you going to be Video Encoding Intel is the way to if your looking to go as fast as you can a 3930k would be your best bet right now. But 4930k is just around the corner but either way just the CPU will set you back a little over $500. If you don't care how fast it is a 4770k would do just nicely.thumb.gif

Cheers

I second that. A 3930k or 4930k would really be top notch, but a 4770k will do just fine smile.gif Using one right now, it's pretty fast when rendering.

A phenom x6 has never beaten a 2600K in anything. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/287?vs=203
Some ocn members made a cinbench comparing phenom x6 against FX8320 http://www.overclock.net/t/1417764/done-ran-my-own-fx-vs-phenom-benchmark-tests

if money is tight, go for a used 2600K or FX8320, If you have a bigger budget, go for the cpus they suggested above

We are talking about video encoding not game benchmarking.

Video Encoding Wise:
FX-8320/FX8350 with AVX/XOP optimizations.
i7 4770K with AVX2 optimizations.
