X800XL vs X1600Pro

post #1 of 17
Thread Starter
Hey guys,

This might seem noobish or pointless, but I was wondering which card is better? I have the X800XL and I think it is going south on me. A buddy has the X1600 Pro that he would sell me. Aside from the SLI advantage, is there anything else better about the X1600 Pro?

It seems the X800XL is actually better as far as core and mem speeds.
Here is a link from ATI's site showing a side by side comparison;

http://apps.ati.com/ATIcompare/result.asp

Also, any suggestions on a card that is the same or better than the X800XL for around $100-150.

Thanks in advance,

The X1600 should be better or about the same as the X800XL. It also has SM3, which the X800 dosent have.

BTW: Its Crossfire it has, not SLI

My bad.....I dont deal with either so i cant remember which is which..LOL

And looking at the clock speeds;

The 800 has 490 core and 400 engine, while the 1600 has 390 core and 500 engine. Do they kinda offset each other?

Would that 100mhz make much difference?

Thats mainly what I want is performance. I was getting around 50-60fps in CS:S and it has dropped to no more than 25fps.

the 800xl is 400/490 core/mem you got it backwards so how much are you willing to spend cuz you can get a 1900gt for 150 on newegg

Pick up a 7600GT or 7900GS, the 7900GS is better, BUT it can be more expensive sometimes.
There is also the choice of a 1900GT, this card can perform just as good as the 7900GS.

I like how no one can answer the guys simple question. But yet everyone is telling him to get this and that. Lets stick to the question at hand. The answer is simple the x1600pro would be the card to get, as it is newer tech than the 800. And should run your games just fine.

well,not being the not ati expert that i am i can tell you,in general,that newer technology is better then old,for example look at the nvidia cards 6800 gt and a 7600 gt,for some reason the 7600 gt is faster altho has fewer pipelines.
newer technology = better
and a 1600 is alot newer then a 800xl lol *** is that i never even heard of such a model.
but i wouldnt suggest the 1600 at all becuase i didnt hear anything good about it at all.
