I figure there's quite a few around here far more knowledgeable than I am, so I want some advice concerning my next build. I finally am at a point where I can crack my wallet wide open for this build, but I want to do a lot more research this time around and get the absolute most bang for the buck that I can as well... Primarily this will be my over the top gaming build and I'll be doing plenty of folding and photography and editing with the amount of power it will have. Eventually everything will also be under water but initially I'll be going with air cooling until tax return time in the Spring.

Here's the components I know I want:

i7-4930K (maybe downgrade to an i7-4820K)
ASUS RIVE
Samsung 840 Pro 256 GB or maybe an 840EVO 500GB
Silverstone Strider Gold Evolution 1200W
Corsair 900D
64 GB GSkill Ripjaws Z 1866 (I already have one 32GB set so why not grab a second and set up 32GB as a ram cache for SSD acceleration?)
WD Caviar Black 1 TB (I already own these... eventually I will be replace them with SSD storage in another year or so as prices fall)
Corsair Vengeance K95

Eventually I'll be adding (3) 27" 2560x1440 monitors (probably ASUS or Dell) so I'm curious about what GPU setup would be best and most economically feasible given the fact that the Radeon 9xxx series launches soon and the GTX 800 series is about a year behind that. I originally thought about a GTX 780, but since I want to do folding and 1440+ gaming, I'm also leaning towards doing either a 7970 Xfire or a 7950 Tri-Fire set up. I know for certain that I want to go with gpus that have 384 bit bandwidth so I'll have a longer relevant life out of them until I make a big upgrade... yet something that will have enough resale value (GPUS and water blocks) that it can help cover at least the majority if not the full cost of one card... That's why I'm really leaning towards the tri-fire 7950s atm, but I'm open to advice and suggestions as I want this to be a build I don't really have reason to upgrade further for at least 18 months.

Any advice and opinions are welcome and greatly appreciated. Thanks all!

If you can wait, AMD 9970.

But of course, wait for benchmarks and initial pricing to compare

i agree with the post above. wait for HD 9970 / HD 9950. prices on GTX 780 should also drop once there is competition for it.

They're scheduled to do the official launch annoucement sometime next month... maybe Late September they'll hit stores and etailers, much more likely later into October though... It can't be all that far off since they have already been sending out the engineering samples of the 9970... which means probably 4-8 weeks after we'll see the 9950s... I'd be kind of surprised if the 9950s come out sooner than later November.
