Buy HD 7950 now or wait for next gen?

Thread Starter
My graphics card has been crashing a lot lately and i'm thinking about replacing it, I can get a MSI HD7950 for $160 After MIR which i think is a good deal considering i paid over $230 for my HD5870 when it was released.

Would my current system Bottleneck a new card? This motherboard uses PCI-E 2.0 would it make a big impact on the performance?

nah, you should be good to go, or you could buy a cheaper card to hold you till next gen Radeons are released. Probably like a 7850 or 7870. Just a suggestion but at that price, it should be worth it

160$ is a sick deal, the cooler isnt the best but the price...

Your system is PERFECTLY matched with any high end single GPU.

Pretty nice deal. On the price/performance side I don't think you can get better if you wait for the new cards.

no, your cpu at 4.2 GHz (even 4GHz) will not bn it. i bought one and i knew from the get go that it's cooling is going to be bad. but i have a better spare 7970 stock cooler and i replaced the original. now, it is all good. if you are not planning on replacing the stock cooler you might want to stay away.

the one i got has unlocked voltages and uses Hynix vram. does 1100/1575 using stock volts. that's a 7970 GHz speed right there.

edit: running at X8 (second pci slot) and 2.0 . . .

160 dollars is a sick price. is it this card . if it is i advise against it. the cooler sucks. hot and loud

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127737

for overclocking you need a better cooler card like sapphire dual x or his iceq or his iceq x2 or msi tf3 or gigabyte wf3. gigabyte comes clocked at 1 ghz but has locked voltage. the rest are clocked between 925 and 960 mhz and have unlocked voltage. HIS HD 7950 iceq x2 boost is the best built HD 7950. ref HD 7970 PCB. more power phases than ref HD 7950

your case can easily fit cards upto 32 cm

The HAF 932 Advanced supports GPU up to 320.7mm in length. After we have installed the card we can secure the air duct to assist with air flow.

Your system is perfectly matched with one high end GPU, and the difference between PCIe 3.0 and 2.0 is less than 1%.

Get a dual x cooler from sapphire.
