I have owned a pair of Steelseries Siberia v2 with the USB sound card for years, and i can easily say its the most comfortable pair of headphones i ever had, could use them for 24 hours and it still wouldn't be uncomfortable, that is a huge selling point for me, and many others i imagine.
The microphone is absolutely great compared to many others, plus being able to retract it is great.
As far as i known they designed the headset to work great with crap quality input, such as mp3, which is what most people will listen to. And for that purpose they are absolutely great, even mp3s will sound okay. The virtual surround with the USB card was great all things considered.
My point is at the price point it was a lovely combo that served me fantastically. And i hope the successor will keep it up.
Now before you call me a fanboy and someone who doesn't know a thing, i do also own a pair of DT 990 Pro 250 Ohms and a Sound Blaster Z. And yes, those do indeed sound much better... IF and only IF you use high quality input, you get a lot more detail and things you didn't notice in songs and the surround is better, but try and play low quality stuff and it EASILY sounds worse than a pair of steelseries because you do get to hear the low quality, the steelseries will kind of obfuscate it.
If you listen mostly to low quality stuff, get headset for that.
If you listen to mostly high quality stuff then get a headset for that.
My 2 cents anyway.
