Corsair H60 High Idle temps

Thread Starter
Does anyone know if this is normal?

I have an i7 920, with my H60 I'm idling around 50. But load only goes up to 60.

So my load temps are great, really quiet, but are idle temps supposed to be like that?

Im not that familiar with the 920 but a quick google search seems to indicate that 30-40 is normal for idle. Its strange that your load is that low with idle that high. How are you gauging the temps? Try more then 1 way and see if they match up, could be a issue with whatever method your reading temps.

At load is it throttling back?

Id say it may be worth checking that the H60 is seated properly and the paste is doing its job. I have an H80i and i seated it wrong, my idle was ok at like 35 but temps hit a 100 on my 4770k. Reseated and idle dropped to high 20's and load max is like 70-75 now.

You could always try the stock cooler or a cheap air cooler to see how it compares

I'm using realtemp and coretemp, both are giving me the same thing.

I have manually disabled all throlling, and undervolted my CPU. Undervolting didn't do much for my idle, but without it my load temps would be over 80.

I removed the thermal pad that I was using for it, and put on some arctic silver 5.

How many ways are there for this thing to be mounted? It's a square.

I read up and it said the hoses are supposed to be pointing towards the ram, mines pointing straight up.

Does that make a difference?

One other thing I'd like to note. It's possible to mount the H60 to the front of my case, I have a Fractical Design Define R4. Should I put it on the front so it sucks in cool air? then put the 140mm fan that was on the front, in the back?

Well I switched the H60 to intake.

Before idle temps were 51-55 (It's hot in the room right now), now it's 45-48. So a good improvement.

That's a good improvement, but I still think that is kind of high. AS5 needs some curing time, so maybe check temps again in a few days after it has 'cured.' What is your ambient temp?

Ambient temp is probably about 25-27 I'd guess.

Id say try a stock or air cooling. See how it compares. If its lower then there may be an issue with the H60, if its same or higher id try your cpu at stock settings. If temps are reasonable at stock then its your OC causing heat issues at idle.

I'm not overclocking, I'm actually undervolting.

Undervolting didn't do much for my idle temps, lowered my load temps by over 20 degrees though.

Theres a dust filter on the front.

I'd get slightly better temps if I removed it, but wont.
