A8S-X and overclocking

Thread Starter
hey guys

I am having an issue overclocking Asus A8S-X. I use to have Ultra 512x2 and both had different timings so my system read them as 166mhz. I went and got Ultra XL 512x2 that have the exact same timings. Now before I could use the auto-overclock feature to hit 2.5Ghz but it wouldn't let me do that manually.

Now that I have the new Ultra XL's it will not let me past 213 with stepping at x11 with either the auto-overclock or manually. I tried adjusting the volts for the memory but that didn't seem to work. The Asus A8S-X board does not have a lot of options, but I know I was able to hit 2.5Ghz when it read my memory at 166. Any clue as to why it won't now would be great.

Being it's a SIS chip it's not a friendly OCer.
Oddly enough the Biostar TForce 939 version OCs rather well on the cheep. Some have hit 320MHz with them.

Well, if your board registered the old RAM at 166, and now it caps out at 213, don't forget your new memory starts at 200 and caps out at 213. You've picked up 34 MHz on the RAM just by changing it, so there's not much more room before the board reaches its cap. Hope that made sense.

yes it did.I reckon a new board is needed.
