no gpu is stock. it's a 7850. i hate the damn thing though. when i'm playing a game it feels like i'm sitting beside a furnace. hot wafts of air escape through the side panel. lol. when its not in a game the card downclocks to 300/150. you think that could be it?

Unless something is really wrong with your card, I doubt that it is the problem. Its very, very common for GPU's to underclock while running in 2D mode. It reduces the power consumption and noise down to acceptable levels, so I'm doubting that it is the problem.

Have you tried resetting your OC and going back to stock, and/or doing the system restore? I'm just wondering if you've made it back to the computer performing the way you want it to.

I do think that it sounds like you've been running your rig with an unstable OC for a while though, so I'm suspecting your windows install.

Good luck man smile.gif.

Well damn. I thought I HD it all stable, but a week later I started getting crashes n stability issues. I guess the mobo/cpu combo can't handle 4.5 ghz sub 1.35v. Higher than that n temps will get too hot for stress tests. I stepped it down to 4.4ghz. The general performance feels smoother.

Can't reinstall windows yet cuz i don't have an optical drive anymore. Need to get a 5gb usb.

k i solved the whole icons not loading quickly, and general smoothness issue. turned out to be related to my ram. the timings povided by g.skill (10-12-12-31) were too fast for the chip, i guess. i lowered the tras to the sum -1, and it worked fine. so it's at 10-12-12-33. i guess the reason for that is the 2133 frequency is supported only in oc mode by the mobo, and i read somewhere that when running oc ram the tras needs to be equal to the three values +/- 1. seems fine for now. everything loads blazing fast, and i didn't even need to reload windows.

thanks for all the help guys
