Linux on a GMA500 Netbook

Hello everybody. A friend of mine's got an old netbook with a Z520, a GMA500 and 1GB RAM. We want to install ubuntu on an external USB Flash Drive. What would be the best linux distribution for that? The netbook will be used only for skype calls.

So you're installing ubuntu on the flash drive? Are you also installing it on the netbook hard drive or do you want to know what flavor of ubuntu specifically? With the specs you listed Xubuntu would be a good choice. Or Lubuntu.

That netbook has no hard drive. The guy wanted a cheap solution to make Skype calls with the integrated camera and mix, because he does not have one for his desktop. So the usb flash drive will be the main storage. I said Ubuntu, but meant Linux generally .. As long as Skype works on it

Should work, though like I said I don't recommend stock ubuntu, go with Lubuntu or Xubuntu
