Yeah GPU is faster for sure. CPU not sure how much really.
Well its not like the OS didn't need space on the old consoles: Originally the PS3 needed 120Mb (out of 256mb ram + 256mb vram).
Even if you compare the cut down 7800 GTX found in the PS3 to an 7850 its pretty safe to say its at least an x9 improvement.
The Cell is a bit of an odd ball though. If memory serves it did around 175-200 GFLOPS while the Xbox 360 CPU was something like 80 GFLOPS.
I'v seen some different numbers thrown around but the one I see the most is that jaguar in PS4 is 102 GFLOPS.
But at the end of the day peak flops is a very poor way of measuring performance. As an example Intel Core i7 980 XE does 109 GFLOPS but it does not take an genius to work out that with real world work loads an 980 is far faster the the current gen console CPU's.
