Yeah I was just making a point that more fps is better than more resolution imo ;p

For so many people NES games were just fine graphically too.

720p is not a preference in console. It is unfortunately a shackle. Also some people care more about pretty graphics AND gameplay.
I know that can't, that's just another reason while consoles are inferior (again, idc if you have a reason you want to play on them, but it does't mean they aren't inferior)
Just because they can't do higher than 60 fps doesn't mean it's not too low.

Against development? No, just against non-smooth gameplay. There's barely even a noticeable difference between 720p and 1080p while you're actually running and looking around. I don't stop and look at objects, I click on heads.

Yes some people care about both, but unless you have magical hardware that doesn't exist anywhere else to run at 4k w/ 1ms response time and 120+ hz, you're going to have to comprise on one of them.

Again, my point in that post was that either way someone is not going to be happy, some people want the graphics, other people want the fps.

If you can't see at 720p I think you might need to see the eye doctor.

I totally agree but as I said yesterday the hardware in 2013 had to allow us 1080p 60hz constant gameplay.

When we upgraded to PS3 from PS2 it was really impressive. PS4 however feels more like PS3.5 for me.

Same goes with Xbone.

Anyway, those little suckers will still sell millions of units at the end of the day.

You're implying that to be into PC hardware, you also have to be condescending to those who aren't? I have a pretty nice rig but I game on all platforms and don't look down on others who are content to use those platforms.

Back on topic, I'm not surprised the first gen of PS4/XO titles are 1080p/30fps or 720p/60fps. Little bit disappointed, but it is first round. Launch titles are generally much uglier than second wave onwards. Gotta give devs time to settle into the new chipset.

Although I agree that games will look better each year, one of the reasons the PS3 games look much better was because developers could barely understand the CELL architecture after few years.

However the upcoming generation is much more friendly since it is based on x86 architecture.

Therefor I am not expecting incredible graphical momentum in the coming years.

When i said 720p is not enough too see the gameplay i get the comment to see the eye docter lol redface.gif

I mean what is the point to have Sharp Textures, High Res. Shadows, High Res Shading etc, if you stil get upscaled 720p image giving nice pixelated lines everywhere,

Then i think a 1080p res with medium effects gives a way better looking image.

I even got a Xbox 360 here to compare my 1080p pc image to 720p 30fps image, And i got the xbox 360 connected to a very high end tv, but everything is still a pixelated mess..

Poeple who say 720p gives a sharp crisp image on a 1080p monitor, they should visit the eye docter LOL thumb.gif

A little off topic, but the only game I'm actually worried about performance wise is Assassins creed 4.

AC3 was horribly optimized, I think it only used 1 or 2 cores. If that hasn't been fixed, the console version is going to suffer heavily if it only tries to use 2 of their baby cores frown.gif

Yeah this is my thinking as well. These new consoles are pretty familiar territory for developers. The XBone is even using a Windows 8 kernel and DirectX. I don't think these consoles will have nearly as much unlockable potential as their power-based predecessors.

But at the same time that makes this news even more strange to me. A 7850/7870 should be capable of a lot more than 720p @ medium settings. wth.gif

If anything, BF4 is going to play on these consoles as if they're just another random PC out in somebody's basement. The game hasn't been tailored for the next gen consoles in any way. There hasn't been enough time for that type of work. There hasn't been any precision in their optimizations. Just a "ballpark" guess of what they might be capable of doing and scaling BF4 down to that level.

Putting BF4 on a 4-5 jaguar cores in a real PC environment would be detrimental to the performance, so they've obviously done SOME work, but nothing to warrant the "console optimization" certificaition we're familiar with. Heck, DICE probably didn't even get their hands on finished hardware until a few months ago.

DICE is probably thinking 3 things.
  • Quality control on the current gen (takes a lot of effort)
  • Maximizing PC quality for the enthusiasts (takes a lot of effort)
  • Ensuring next-gen consoles get a version that's "good enough" over last gen (don't have time for this guy so we'll just squeeze by)

There's still nothing to worry about though.

Halo 3 came out on the 360 almost 2 years after the 360's debut in 2005. After two years they delivered a very fine polished game that pushed the console in many ways with its scope, AI, continuous theater mode, and attention to detail. It wasn't the prettiest, but that was excusable because it could still handle almost any situation the players created in campaign mode or multiplayer.

5 years after Halo 3, halo 4 came out and improved in every way. It pulled off 720p (something Halo 3 couldn't do) all while improving textures, AI, particle effects, lighting, and increasing the scope.

So to think that we're being this judgmental of Bf4 and jumping to these irrational conclusions about the consoles' capabilities, I think we're a bit smarter than that and can look at recent history to give us some insight into the future progression of the xbox one/ps4.....

Don't get caught up in whatBF4 is doing, look forward to BF5 and any other future releases, THOSE will be the ones pushing the limits.
