720p is not a preference in console. It is unfortunately a shackle. Also some people care more about pretty graphics AND gameplay.
I know that can't, that's just another reason while consoles are inferior (again, idc if you have a reason you want to play on them, but it does't mean they aren't inferior)

Against development? No, just against non-smooth gameplay. There's barely even a noticeable difference between 720p and 1080p while you're actually running and looking around. I don't stop and look at objects, I click on heads.
Yes some people care about both, but unless you have magical hardware that doesn't exist anywhere else to run at 4k w/ 1ms response time and 120+ hz, you're going to have to comprise on one of them.
Again, my point in that post was that either way someone is not going to be happy, some people want the graphics, other people want the fps.
