[Twitter] Battlefield 4 PS4 runs at 720p native - Page 8

To be completely honest, I don't understand this at all. The GPU horse power in the PS4 is near a 7850, also a console, so it's heavily optimized, and they cant even push 1080p? I feel this whole 60fps thing is directly related to COD and they would have a much better trade-off for visual quality/performance if they went with 45fps.

But the 60fps title is marketing.

EDIT
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-7870-review-benchmark,3148-6.html

Un-optimized 7850 running battlefield 3 at 1080p/53fps.

Ehh it's not that bad. I ran the Witcher 2 on 1280x720 on my laptop to get it to run and it was fine. Ill admit that given the choice ill take 1080p any day of the week but having grew up with consoles my whole life lower resolutions don't bother me much.

I don't think 45 locked is a good option. I though it had something to do with developing based on monitor refresh rate and multiples of 30? Perhaps I'm wrong. I know that explanation wasn't that great either.

Regardless, an optimized PS4 and XB1 should be able to pull off 1080p at 60 fps with compromised visual settings pretty well. Thinking MEDIUM/HIGH settings.

They'll nail it for sure in BF5 but for the WOW factor, it needs to happen now IMO.

Alot of games actually render at less then 720p and then upconvert to 720-1080. This makes the games technically "HD" but in reality they are rendering sub-HD. At least that is to my understanding

....To clarify: BF4 running at a higher resolution than 720p in the PS4 dev environment. Final resolution when the game is optimised at launch!....

The dev environment is a PC *rolls eyes*

Optimized = we turned off shadows, AA, AO, and AF.

This really isn't next gen at all imo, the jump is just not there. The jump from ps2/xbox to the 360/ps3 was huge.

They focused on the social aspects of gaming instead of gaming itself, its all about getting connected and being apart of the community and sharing content etc etc. Wish they focused more on the jump.

Correct. Halo is a biggie. COD on PS3 is another.

So apparently BF4 on the PS4 looks like crud:

16 player maps, crappy textures and models, etc...thoughts?

As games get more and more realistic, we will see less differences between hardware jumps. That's why Both Sony and Microsoft didn't put high end hardware in their consoles this generation. The cost of hardware to put, say, a 7870 vs a 7950 won't justify the minimal jump in actual graphical fidelity. That and people who play consoles will be very satisfied with the jump in graphical performance.

Another thing people need to realized is that at the beginning of this current generation, we were still getting the "oh, well the 360/PS3 doesn't look that much better" arguement. There is an adjustment period with developers that needs to be worked through so they can see what the hardware can do. To me, all of the next gen games look great, and I'm excited for the future of gaming.
