Built-in webcam driver keeps disappearing! Help!

Thread Starter
My girlfriend got an Asus N550JV, and its really a great laptop. But anyways, the laptop shipped with a couple missing drivers, including the webcam. Through Asus's driver page, there is no webcam driver as far as I can see. But I noticed my brand-new Sager uses a Bison webcam driver from 2006...So I find a page on Asus's website that list all of their camera drivers, and she installs a Bison driver from 2011 listed for Windows 7 64bit. It works fine, until she turns her laptop off then back on, then its completely gone and the device is not recognized in Device Manager. Also, she has a SSD cache with Intel Smart Start, if that makes a difference.

Didn't even know such a thing existed, probably cause I've never had driver issues. We'll try it tomorrow, hopefully thats it. +REP

Well you have to start it by pressing F8 and it would have to be done every startup but it would validate that it is a driver problem

On Windows 8 you can just straight up disable it apparently.

Yes it did work, thank you very much.

And on Windows 8: it is a great OS at its core. Very quick with many features, just ruined with the Metro. Install Start8 and you'll hardly have to see the stupid Metro screen.

Will do i am unsure if i would rather put win 7 on it, i just ordered the Asus g64vw so hope the uefi bios will allow it. But as long as windows 8 can look like windows 7, i dont see any reason why i would. question though are you able to actually put shortcuts on the metro wall?

Any shortcut on your desktop becomes a shortcut on the Metro screen, and yes you can add and remove whatever shortcuts you want, just like on desktop. I never even go to the Metro screen though, I only use Metro to mess with the settings from the sidebar.

Update, webcam gone again. Im not sure if disabling driver enforcement is a one-time thing or not. But its gone now. Currently trying to install the driver in compatibility mode now.
