VRM Cooling Question

Thread Starter
Hi, I have a GTX 680 that I completely removed the cover on and used an antec 620 on, I bought copper heatsinks for the ram and VRM but the ones for the VRM didn't stick well and fell off. I put an 80mm fan blowing air directly onto the VRM, with no heatsinks on them, will that be sufficient to cool them? Will my card die? I can't really install real watercooling because of the cost, the size of my small case and basically I don't overclock. I just put it on the GTX 680 because I wasn't comfortable playing games at 85C.

From all the things I've read, yes, you'll either cause vrm to explode or somehow thermal shutdown hopefully before they explode... I read an article awhile back that had ati vrms at 129c and they still didn't explode, but still, you definitely should have a heatsink of some kind on them. My overclocked 670's vrms on the Asus dcii get pretty hot even with a heatsink and 70mm fan blowing right on them....
