780 vs 7990 - Page 4

Between the GTX 780 and HD 7990, the HD 7990 http://amzn.to/18bC67j has more raw horsepower but if you plan to ever get a second card and Crossfire/SLI then you want to go the GTX 780 SC http://amzn.to/13RUAtL route.

Ummm... the 7990 is already in crossfire. Getting a second one would put you in 4-way crossfire and outperform just about everything.

Doesn't really, unless you really love PhysX. I'm probably going to wait until the next AMD cards come out, let's hope they start poking at Titan in performance.

Yes, but 4-way Crossfire/SLI offers diminishing performance gains over a 2-way setup. So if you want a single card get the HD 7990 (dual GPU) or if you want to add a second card eventually then get the GTX 780.

How did u earn so much rep with comments like that? 4 cards scale very poorly and sometimes negatively. I can't blame you to much for not knowing that though, after seeing your single 670 with 4gb of ram that it will never use.

To be honest I haven't read more than the OP but I'd be very hesitant using a 650w power supply on a 7990, at least if consumes anywhere near the amount of power that 2 individual 7970s consume

I read a couple of websites the other day showing the 7990 in quad fire, and since they fixed some issue the the 7990's were having in quadfire. They actually scaled pretty good. I mean in all honesty anything past tri-fire is just for "show" a.k.a. benchmarking. But it did give improvements in over-all fps on most new titles. However the new frame pacing tech is not supported in quadfire at the moment so Radeon-Pro would have to be your new best friend with Dynamic V-sync.

Yes I know about the diminishing returns of 4-way crossfire. It would still be faster then 4x alot of cards, I dont see how this is a wrong statement and how you can be such a dick about it. I just didnt understand his statement fully, please dont be such a dick next time.

*EDIT*
And for your information, I got this GTX 670 4GB for $180.

True, that was pretty rude of me, bad morning, my appologies.

However, I still stand by 4 way cfx is terrible. In most gaming benchmarks 2 way will almost double performance, 3 way can "sometimes" give a large bump. 4 way usually gives almost nothing or even hurts performance. Unless someone is doing synthetic benchmarks 4 way is a bad idea.
