BSOD - From AMD drivers??

Thread Starter
Two days ago I was installing the latest AMD 12.8 beta 2 drivers and half way through I got a BSOD for the first time ever on this machine. It caused major issues with graphics since it was in the middle of install, so I just did a clean install of Windows on my PC.

Last night I started some steam downloads and when I woke up this morning and checked how they were doing, I got a BSOD soon as I moved my mouse to get my monitor to turn back on. This is after already reformatting my SSD and doing a clean install with previous version drivers to avoid issue.

What would cause this? I doubt its some sort of registry error as I just reinstalled Windows.

Could the other driver update have damaged my 7970's and cause the blue screens? I haven't had the chance to run any games yet to check how they are doing.

Or could this be an issue with my SSD going bad? My load times for Windows seem fine (actually better because of new install) but I don't know how to check it any further. I could try running some benchmark, but I don't really want to bench my SSD if I don't need to.

You probably have ULPS enabled. Welcome to the AMD life I am afraid.

Disable CPU powerstate S6 in BIOS and disable ULPS in registry. Issue should resolve itself.

Now I'm having issues enabling Crossfire. I click the bubble nest to enable crossfireX and click apply, then the bubble pops back to disable crossfirex immediately. This seems so broken.

Ok everything is fixed like you said, except I just got a BSOD when I pulled my monitors out of standby again which confirms that this is the issue.

I never had this problem until I tried installing those beta 2's and now the problem caried over to this install of windows. Anyone know of a fix for this?

I've been having issues with my HD 6850 since I got it last year. Recently I've been getting Blue screens from the new beta driver and even before it. Since you said you reinstalled windows though, it might be the card that is defective. I plan on moving onto an Nvidia card when I get the money. Hope you fix your problem.

Try manually setting the voltages with Afterburner. Sometimes it prevents the cards from powering down their voltages. Which is what this all stems from.

Alas, after 3 generations of AMD, I have completely given up on them getting their drivers that stable.
