So recently I bought a Crucial m4 256gb for £137... this seemed like a good deal at the time but I recently noticed that a new SSD has appeared on the market for £135, called the Samsung 840 EVO. I checked benchmarks and the speeds. It seems like it's a lot faster than my Crucial. So what do you guys think? Do I cancel the order and get the 840 EVO, or will I not notice a difference?

First of all what are you planning on using the SSD for? Boot? Gaming? Both?

The Samsung 840 EVO is a new line by Samsung to be somewhere in between the 840 and the 840 Pro SSDs,

I've never had a Crucial, but I do have a Samsung 830 and an 840 Pro and they are blisteringly fast as well as reliable.

Iirc the Crucial M4 uses a Marvell Controller while Samsung use there own in house build controllers.

What size is the 840 EVO?

250GB oh and I just noticed you have to pay for more shipping and they add a little extra tax on... even though that price is with tax apparently... final price for the 250gb EVO is 146 but I already bought the Crucial 256gb for 137

Bugger, that's a shame, I would have recommended the 840 EVO for the extra $9

You shouldn't feel to bad tho, the m4s are proven performers, in real world terms you probably won't really miss the extra performance boost between the m4 and the EVO unless your really super worried of a second or 2 in tranfer/read/write times. Most everyday users wouldn't be able to tell the difference between them for everyday tasks if it wasn't for benchmark graphs!
