7970 Vapor X Ghz Edition 3gb OC info

Thread Starter
well as the threads title says i have 7970 Vapor X Ghz Edition 3gb. I run vally bench on ultra HD setting for say 30 min or so. the Specs.

Vapor x Core 1050
Memory 1500

so 1st i went to 1100//1550 Did this no problem with only a slight increase in score maybe 10-20 or so on average.

2nd 1150//1575 also no problem went up from stock say 25-40 points.

Last test im at 1200///1600 Also no problems went up over 100 points from stock.

Now my temp on my final test never broke over 68c and my fan is still on auto never went over 65 percent of its total speed. What have u guys seen, herd or done your self with this exact card, Any idea on how high u think it would go or a point to just stop oc to be safe any info would be nice thx alot guys

PS never change any voltage or even the power limit//OC with msi afterburner

OP it looks like your vapor-x can hit 1.2 Ghz easily at stock voltage. your core temps are fine. what about VRM temps. check if they stay below 90c. also pushing beyond 1200 mhz might require a bit of voltage tweaking. so that might involve compromises in temps and heat. you could ramp up fan speed. so try and experiment and decide what suits you.

also definitely increase the power limit to +20% otherwise the chip will throttle and you will lose performance. good luck. thumb.gif

wow 1.2 ghz on stock thats a very good chip

my brothers 7970 is voltage locked to 1.18

ok im sorry i was all messed up.

stable in valley benchmark and stable in crysys 3 on max everything 2 different stories lol.

max stable in Crysis 3 is 1200///1550 at 20 percent power limit. Also my voltage is stock at 1.5 volts. Have not increased the voltage at all over 1.5 other than the 20 percent i guess. at this it reaches 68c. You think its save to add some voltage increase the clock? i wanted to get 1200//1600 was my goal

OP you mean the stock core voltage is 1.15v / 1150 mv. or is it 1.25v which is 1250 mv. cause you can never run your chip at 1.5v . would die if you try running 1.5v biggrin.gif since your core clocks are the most important for perf gain, if you can run at 1200 mhz with complete stability in games/benchmarks just leave it at that. the memory OC does not help gain much perf.

i tried to unlock my voltage on msi under settings as well as the cfg file. wont work so either i need a diff version of msi or the worse option, card is voltage locked lol. So what ever the stock voltage of the card is is what im running at as of now(with 20% power limit) with the 1200///1550 clocks. this allows me to run crysis 3 at average of 40+FPS and i get a score of 1988-2000 on valley bench

You might need a BIOS flash for voltage unlocking, unfortunately I'm not to sure however as my cards were unlocked from factory.
