Some of you may remember me...

Thread Starter
Hello everyone, its been awhile since I've been in this section of OCN, or really on OCN whatsoever, I've had a lot of stuff happen in my lives, and right now I have a new goal which I am extremely motivated to get to, I recently took a week long trip to Illinois, just south of Chicago, in the villages of Bridgeview, Alsip, Chicago Ridge, etc. to see a friend of mine from the internet, and I have decided that I am going to save up the money to move there. While I was there, I received word from a friend of mine, though...

Last week a very, very good friend of mine was giving herself a breast examination and found a lump the size of a quarter, she went to the doctor and after tests, he confirmed that it is cancerous, but luckily she found it while it was still in early stages. Throughout this week shes going to be getting tests to determine if the cancer has spread, and after that the necessary steps will be taken, whether that be surgery or whatever route they want to take. The reason I came back to this part of OCN, is because from the bottom of my heart I want to thank everyone that folds for what they are doing to contribute towards cancer research, it may seem like fun folding for the team competition, but never forget that the advancements made in cancer research, they are because of you. I haven't been able to fold in a long, long time because my computer isn't powerful enough to be any good at it, but hopefully one day we will be able to rid the world of this scourge. Until I started to type this, it hadn't really sunk in. One of my best friends in the entire world has breast cancer...

I am sorry to hear about your friend. This can be both shocking and sad. However, people can and DO recover. Keep your fingers crossed and be thankful that it was caught early. A lot of people do not perform self-exams. My aunt has survived, had to have lymph nodes and a breast removed, but she is doing great now. My uncle was given 5 months to live because of an "in-operable" brain tumor, however he found a surgeon that was willing to take the risk. He is still kicking and cancer free and this was 6 years ago.

As my mom always tells me... "Thoughts become things" So keep your thoughts positive and stay supportive of your friend.
