NEED NAS, no idea were to start

So with a growing family, a mother in law, and to many pocket sized hdd's floating around my house, I would like to try and set up a NAS.

Key features would be the ability to plug it directly into my router so everyone in the house can have access to it.

only need about 2TB

would it be cheaper to buy one with harddrives vs one without?

price no higher than $300

Oh and, not sure if this is a possibility, please correct me if Im wrong, but would a NAS be configurable to sync photos to wireless? Say we are on the road and we take cell phone pics, I know you can upload those to say facebook or tumblr, so can a NAS be set up for it as well?

So any information would be amazing. I know nothing about personal NAS devices and solid brands that wont fry and delete the first 3 years of my kids lives in photos...

Thank you all!

Synology DS212j

with either the WD or Seagate NAS drive (same price, seagate is slightly faster according to reviews)

use coupon 25offaug23a to bring price down to $285

I've been using a Synology myself. not sure about direct uploads from phone, but I was able to access my NAS remotely while on a trip in Asia with my laptop.

I think this would fit the bill nicely. All my NAS will do is house wedding and baby photos. I assume you run the hdd's in raid? Does the NAS do that for you? I have not dabbled in RAIDing hard drives yet.
