Coming From an Iphone 5

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I've been reading about android phones lately, and it has intrigued me to give them a try.

I have always had as Iphone, but I want to give android a shot.

Unfortunately, I'm not eligible for an upgrade for another year, but I don't mine buying used, especially if I sell my Iphone.

So basically I'm looking for a phone that I can install custom roms on very easily. I have been looking at the Nexus 4.

I want to try to keep the price under $400, without an upgrade that is.

Are there any other recomendations?

Thank you!

A Nexus 4 will give you the purest Android experience.

For additional features, a Galaxy S-series phone will give you probably the smoothest transition from iPhone.

For a similar build quality, HTC One.

Ive heard a lot of people praise their new droids and the moto x for awesome battery life and snappy performance. It doesnt have the top end specs of some competitors, but its supposed to be a great experience.

How does the Nexus 4 compare to the 5 as far as battery goes?

I'm not really looking for any extra feature, I plan on loading a rom as soon as I get it.

I've seen a few things on the Moto X, it looks pretty cool, but I think it's out of my price range.

I'm pleased with my Droid Razr HD. Great battery life. Usually a day and half with moderate surfing, lots of texting and some music playing, and auto/low brightness. Though if you can swing the extra bucks get the Razr Maxx HD. Same as the Razzr HD just a 50% (3300mAh) bigger battery and 32gigs of memory instead of 16. Feel s quick and snappy 90%, I dont use Wifi because I dont use that much data and it's slower. Also, side note, by far the easiest hand held device I've even taken apart.

Only problem I had with it the first one I got the ear piece speaker died after a month but got replaced under warranty. But the new phone also has poorish sound quality out of the earpiece. Some calls are better than other but I've taken to talking on speaker phone more often than not.

Battery life won't be as great simply because its a larger screen. The 4.3 update brought a nice improvement to idle power consumption though, so with moderate use you should be able to get a couple of days out of it. Plus it has wireless charging, so just pick up a charging mat and never worry about plugging it in.

For someone coming from an iPhone I'd definitely recommend the Nexus 4. It has a glass back, so it should feel remarkably similar to the iPhone 4, and you're pretty much guaranteed updates hours after they are announced.

You might be able to trade your iPhone 5 for something like an S4 straight up though. Lots of people get them on contract and then later decide they should have gone with an iPhone.
