athlon x4 760k???

Thread Starter
Been considering a budget AMD build and the 760k caught my eye but I don't see it for sale anywhere? is this CPU out yet? The 750k still seems like a good chip but if I could get a slight bump in clock speed and possibly better overclocks for a minimal price increase I would. anyone have any insight on what the deal is with these?

They aren't released to the states yet... Probably wont be for a few months still.

Thanks for the info. Probably going to be a few months before I have the funds anyways.biggrin.gif

I have one:

Basically a 6800K without the igpu that produces more heat, OCs 300MHz lower, costs around 85€/$.

If you're looking for a cheap budget CPU it might be a good choice but if in any way possible I'd try to put in some extra money and go for the FX6300 for around $110.

Any specific questions, just ask.

Thanks for the info Alatar, The reason I was looking at the FM2 processor and not the AM3+ is I would like to build a SFF system and to the best of my knowledge there is not an AM3+ ITX motherboard on the market currently. I would also like to avoid the price of an intel system. This system would be used for gaming and general, email, internet purposes. I would also like to try my hand at a little overclocking and I have read these chips are good overclockers.

It's about on par with A10-5800Ks when it comes to OCing, however the 6800K OCs much better. The 760K just seems to produce more heat and require more voltage. Significantly more in both cases.

So yeah I don't think it's an issue really. Especially if you're building an ITX system, it's not going to be getting pushed to the absolute max.

But it's still a nice cheap chip. Would do everything you want very nicely.

I have the 750K and its a nice chip, but I don't think its as good value as the AM3 alternatives. I have it :@ 4.5ghz but thats the max it will go for me.

Clock per clock a FX 6100 or 4130 would beat it.

But it may be worth waiting for steamroller, since there may be a better chance the new platform is supported for longer.
