Secondary hdd setup

Thread Starter
Hi,

This may be a completely ridiculous question, and if so I apologize. I just added a secondary HDD to add some space to my computer (first time doing so) and I noticed that the "libraries" etc... on the left only apply to the primary drive with the OS. The new drive is just empty. Is there any way to add these? Do they only appear on the drive the OS is on? will I need to create folders manually?

Here's a picture to clarify what I mean

You'll need to make new folders yourself on the new drive. You can then add them to your existing libraries (like pictures, video, etc) if you want to.

Those folders are part of the primary drive. However, you can add favorites or drag folders over that you've created on the new driver.

"Hold up wait a minute, Let me put some pimpin in it."

Or you can Completely redirect them altogether. biggrin.gif

Optimizations after System Setup: -> (Click to show)
  • Move user folder locations to Secondary HDD:
    1. Go to your User folder.
    2. Right click your user folder you want to move (ex. the "My Pictures" folder).
    3. Click "Properties."
    4. Click the "Location" tab.
    5. Change the destination to another location bu clicking "Move..." and selecting the destination (ex. "D:\Pictures").
Note 1: If there are two of the same folder in the User folder after the move (ie. My Documents "A" and My Documents "B") you should delete the empty one located on the C: drive. (May need to go into safe mode to delete it) Do not delete the other User folders, only duplicates that come up after the move within the User folder.
Note 2: If the folder already exists that you are linking it to you may want to merge the folders.

Quoted from this thread, Sean's Windows 7 Install & Optimization Guide for SSDs & HDDs

It's was intended for SSD's but you can use it as well for your Secondary HDD. wink.gif

EDIT:
Back up all your current pictures, music, documents, videos and everything else you are going to change before you do this though (better to be safe than sorry)
And you if you need any additional help in doing it let us know, we're here to help.
Welcome to OCN btw bud. smile.gif
