Soundcard + external Amp advice

Thread Starter
Hey guys, as far as audio goes Im pretty nooby. So here's my situation, I currently have a Xonar Phoebus paired with a set of Sennheiser PC360s which produces fantastic sound especially in BF3, which is what I normally play.

I am moving house and am upgrading my home theatre gear and as such have a spare reciever/amp, the Denon AVR3808 this one
http://www.denon.co.uk/uk/product/pages/Product-Detail.aspx?CatId=hometheatre&SubId=avreceivers&ProductId=AVR3808 plus a set of these
http://www.stereophile.com/floorloudspeakers/focal_chorus_826w_30th_anniversary_edition_loudspeaker/ and a Focal sub cant remember which one though.

So my question is should I use this as an external DAC for my Sennies and also floorstanders and sub and do away with the sound card or will they work together? if so what are the pro and cons? this setup will be for my private mancave for watching movies and gaming. Any advice from audiophiles would be appreciated, cheers.

According to someone over on another thread,
Quote:
[Using an external receiver is] better cos you end up using the DAC (digital-analogue converter) in your hi-fi equipment instead of the one in your computer. If you have a digital out then just use that straight to your amp and save the money.

Thanks dude but its not really a question of money as I already have all the equipment but was just asking if these components would work together or not.

You could do an hdmi connection to the Denon, which would let it get the highest bitrate audio. The headphone port on the receiver may or may not be any good, and it may be annoying to keep plugging and unplugging it. You'd also have to run an extension cable back to your computer if you wanted to use the mic on your headset.

The easiest thing would be to keep your soundcard so you can leave all your hardware in place, that way switching audio would be as simple as changing between HDMI and your soundcard in the windows panel.

Thanks dude Im in a couple of weeks so Im just going to play around with a few configurations and see what yields the best results. I just dont want to waste 2.5k amp by basically selling it for nothing and having those monster Focal floorstanders and sub should make for some interesting BF4:thumb:
