Upgrading the Acer M5-481 w/ SSD??

Thread Starter
Hi

I have plans on buying the Acer M5 Ultra 14" and was wondering if the HDD is user replaceable? I was planning on installing a SSD like the Samsung 840 instead since I am in no need for the 500GB storage. Also is there any technical documentation or disassembly guide on how this could be performed? I have seen posting of users stating that they did it but not sure if was a similar SSD upgrade or the Crucial mSATA upgrade they performed...Also would performing this action cause a loss of use of the SSD cache?

Is the optical disk drive (ODD) removable like the Acer M5-581T? And is the connector a SATAIII port?

If yes would you know if the dimensions of ODD is similar to that of the prior timeline series like the 4820 and 4830 ie Dimensions:128.0(W)mm x 9.5(H)mm x 129.0(D)mm?

If you do own this laptop was it worth it? And are there any issues to be worried about?

Thanks

looking at the M5 service manual (I found it here http://minus.com/mbi67pkPu3), the HDD is user removable. the removal instructions are in 5-27. You do have to remove the top of the chassis to get to it though, and that is detailed in section 5-15. ODD is standard micro SATA (same as most laptops) and its removal is detailed in section 5-9.

I can not tell if it is SATA 3 on the ODD, but I would assume so.
