As someone who has only heard of this game because of all the hype, how difficult will it be to get into?

And if I buy the RSI Aurora pledge for $25, do I get the game as well? Kind of like a preorder?

not that difficult. while the online component will be considered MMO, its not subscription based nor is there a level/XP system. you can fly any ship you want, upgrade it how you want, and look the way you want, but it ultimately comes down to actual skill, how good of a pilot you can be. that's the beauty of it.

I guess it's sort of like a pre-order but try not to look at it like that. what you are doing is pledging money to the development process to help keep this game totally crowd funded and out of the hands of big name publishers. regarding the $25 Aurora, no you won't get a copy of the game if you just buy the ship. personally I think that's a bit of a glitch on the Store page. you shiouldnt be able to purchase those ships yet without first having a package, as they are add-on ships. what you need to do is click on Packages, or Backers, or something. you would be after the Digital Scout package. you get 1,000 UEC (in-game currency), Alpha/Beta Access and a copy of the game singleplayer (Squadron 42) and multiplayer (Star Citizen).

the reason this is not a pre-order, is that the game is still in such early development, it's not even in Alpha. in a worst case scenario, CIG could go under, the whole development process could cease and disappear, and backers would actually lose all their money, as it's more of an investment than a pre-order. sounds terrible but that's how it is. however something to consider, that $16mil+ pledged so far is from people like you, me and everyone here. regular people who want this game made by CIG and CIG alone. so the chances of it backfiring on us and not happening are so slim it's not even worth worrying about imo.

if you're into space sims, loved Wing Commander and the likes, dude you want to take part in this wink.gif

also something to note - everything being given to you for pledging early, can be earned in-game with honest work and playtime, and nothing will be so unrealistic to achieve that you have to pledge first to get it. there are NO exclusive pledge bonuses that cannot ever be earned in the actual game, with the exception of the Lifetime Insurance bonus we got for pledging really early. but even now, when you pledge, you get a bonus insurance package for your ship that should cover you for a short while until you build up an income and can afford to maintain the policy yourself in-game.

Alright gtarmanrob thanks for the information.

Registered an account and will be buying the Digital Scout package. I can't believe how quickly this game is being funded. $30 000 USD in half an hour? Lol

Even if you have a 150k limit a month which has been vaguely said, by the time the game releases people will have millions of dollars.
well they could buy up guns and ships and then sell them ingame for credits, but well the only other thing they could get would be capital ships and those will bleed you dry. i am kinda worried that hangar fee for connie, lancer, 300i and aurora will ruin me smile.gif

nah, CR was presenting a holographic console and entire hall with 1200 people went apes**t cause of the little buggy close to the console. and now its in the game shop and people are buying them en masse smile.gif

anyway i would propose you to purchase the digital mercenary package as you get also alpha and beta and you can play since december dogfighting release, and then in steps during 2014 (planetside, singleplayer campaign, persistent universe, beta). there wont be a wipe as they want a living universe with variaty of life and ships and stories.

there are still 32k places in alpha left and they are getting used up 1k access slots per day.

best

The hanger module doesn't seem to support SLI. The program maxes out one of my 780's while the other two are idling at like 2%

Drivers support SLI. Not games. Drivers don't yet support Star Citizen.

I know, it's crazy. that Gamescome event is doing them wonders. the game has come so far already from what we first saw November last year. I downloaded a copy of their trailer and watch it almost daily, just admiring it haha.

nice choice on the DIgital Scout, you get an Aurora with that. obviously the higher the pledge amount, the higher the pledge package and greater the rewards. So if you didn't want to pledge a lot of money, or not sure which one still, make sure you look at all the ships first, theres a Ship Specs section on the RSI website where you can see what they are packing, and even compare their performance against other ships.

regarding the Hangar App performance, I only have my MacBook Retina with me at the moment, running a little 1GB GT650m. lets just say that it runs like a bucket but looks amazing still. I didn't even check before but that's only @ 1024x768 resolution as well haha. it must look frickin amazing on a higher res. no way in hell this thing would run it so not gonna bother, but I fly home in few days. cant wait thumb.gif

Like I said, I can force SLI through the Nvidia Control Panel. Just add a profile linking to the Star Citizen binary and then set SLI mode to "force alternate frame rendering 2". Works for me. Both gpu's fully utilized.

Or through Nvidia inspector add "Starcitizen.exe" to Crysis 3 profile.
