Iv'e used both versions of OR, the 720p, and crystal cove a few weeks ago @ a small tech conference in Miami... It's great for point & shoot, exploration, and other things like that, but it's going to take some SERIOUS getting use to for high level, quick reaction/twitch gaming like you will see in SC during dog fighting. I don't think people realize how much their peripheral vision used when typing.

I've never used TrackIR or OR but what I do know about OR is that is adds a new level of entertainment to even simple games like Minecraft. I can't wait for OR to actually release a consumer device and use it on a high fidelity game like SC. Don't think I'd ever use it for a fast paced FPS or action game, but for something slower like SC (99% of the time you'll be flying or fighting NPCs etc etc) it'll be perfect! biggrin.gif

By the way... Team Catapult released a statement right after TNGS started. It basically said that they have withdrawn from the competition due to time constraints/careers getting in the way, but that Sandi told them to submit for episode 5 anyways... With that in mind, the way they treated the situation is kinda strange, not sure what to believe, nor do I really care. headscratch.gif

Just wondering, but how many of your guys are upgrading CPU for this game? Haswell-E 8 core or Skylake 6 core?

They've confirmed Star Citizen will take advantage of extra cores, up to 8 cores. They've also confirmed Star Citizen will take advantage of AVX 2.0 that came with Haswell.
Now what I'm wondering is if they will take use of the new AVX 3.2 that supposedly comes with Skylake? Haven't heard of it coming to Haswell-E.

So basically 8 core Haswell-E with AVX 2.0 vs 6 core Skylake with AVX 3.2 + possible performance increases.

Strange! Oh well.
EDIT: After watching TNGS, I didn't really like the design. So nothing of value lost for me tongue.gif
And judges didn't like it either. Was VERY rough.

I'll probably upgrade to Haswell-E if it comes as a 5930k with 8cores and not the $1000 top model.
I have heard many times that they will use 8cores, but they have never said anything about using HT. So my question is will SC be able to take advantage of a 8c/16t cpu or just the non threaded cores?

Skylake will be interesting, but I'd rather see all the new stuff it introduces in one of the enthusiast grade cpu's.

I'm thinking the 1000$ CPU range is probably going to be completely unnecessary for top of the line performance. I would assume the engine will use threads but like pretty much everything else l, shows almost no benefit from in on 6 core. I'm going to continue using my golden 3930k...

Where did they confirm use of AVX?

By the way... Making use of 8 cores is something Cryengine does already. In crysis 3 and in the hangar.

Indeed.
Yeah I noticed little difference to when switching from a 3770K to 4930K. Hopefully they will utilize it better later.
Golden 3930K eh? What clocks is it capable of at different voltages?

Specs for the new Mustang is out in case you have missed it!

EDIT: Added Mustang to " The ships of the game".
Quote:
We’re also excited to reveal the initial specifications for the Consolidated Outland Mustang, Star Citizen’s second starter ship. Once modeled in the CryEngine, backers will be able to choose between the Aurora or the Mustang as their base level pledge ship.

Model: Mustang Alpha
Manufacturer: Consolidated Outland
Role: Pursuit
Description: The new Mustang spacecraft line is preparing to go into mass production is priced to compete with Roberts Space Industries’ Aurora. Using newly-developed construction techniques and ultralight material alloys sometimes considered unsafe, the Mustang pushes power ratios to the limit. The result is a sleek, stylish spacecraft that weighs less than the Aurora and has more options for engines and thrusters… at the expense of some stability, weapons hardpoints and cargo capacity.

Structural
Cargo Capacity: 5 tonnes (optional)
Max Crew: 1 person
Upgrade Space: 3 slots
Max Power Plant Size: 3
Max Engine (Primary Thruster): 2xTR2
Maneuvering Thrusters: 6xTR1
Max Shield: 2

Hardpoints
Class-1: 2x Size 2 (wing mount)
Class-4: 1x Size 1 (nose turret)

i'm running 4.9 @ 1.4 right now, but she can do 5.2 @ 1.525, which yes is high, but not SUPER high... I also have intel tuning plan, so i'm not too worried about letting the smoke out.

silly forum draft save feature.

It's always good to double check any "facts" you read people stating on the forums. 99% of confirmed things can be found in the funding goal letters.

No worries, I understand the original sentiment as I've seen so many forum posts where facts were not checked and the post is so far away from reality it is astonishing. I'd like to think I'm not that kind of poster rolleyes.gif
