I was really looking forward to this game but I have got to say, reading guitaramanrobs post kind of has me thinking otherwise.

I am by no means saying it's wrong that he spent $255 on two space ships. I say if you have the money you spend it on whatever you want. It's your money and your right. What concerns me though is I just don't see how this will not = pay to win. Yes I know all of these ships can be earned in game. Or so they say. But how in the world can they justify those high costs for you guys who spent that much then? Most games who go that route end up justifying it by making the items in game take a huge amount of time/effort that in the end just wouldn't be worth it.

So while that does make the cost for you who paid real world cash a good value it basically shuts out folks who don't want to spend real world cash. Unless they want to devote hours and hours of time and effort. I'm not saying you should just be handed whatever you want. I'm simply saying imo it's absurd to think a $200 item can/should be had for free w/o all of that time.

Basically what it boils down to is I think this really will not be the game for me. Not with a full time job and two children who need raising. Not bashing game, hell it will probably be great for a lot of people.

Well if you want to get technical, we aren't buying spaceships. We are donating money to fund the game, and RSI is giving us a cool spaceship to keep us salivating over the long haul. Similar to kickstarter, where if you donate more money you get more cool swag from the people running the kickstarter. Here, they gave out limited numbers of higher end space ships and priced them accordingly. Plus it gives the added bonus of the world not being full of auroras/mustangs on launch day.

This post assumes that acquiring the ships is a "win". That is plainly false for exactly the same reasoning explained by Chris Roberts when he described the money store: people who don't play as often can pay real money for in-game money to expedite what is accomplished in-game by using money so that they aren't so far "behind" hardcore players that the game becomes less entertaining for them.

Star Citizen is skill based. No amount of money you throw at the screen can make a sucky pilot not a sucky pilot. Said sucky pilot in a tricked out Hornet is still going to get torched against a skilled pilot in an Aurora LN. In fact, I expect exactly this will happen a lot in the dogfight module once other ships start to trickle in: Hornet and 325a pilots QQing on the forums when supposedly inferior ships with better pilots keep adding kill hashes to the hull. I'm not saying that out of spite or malice, either - Chris Roberts has said repeatedly and stands firmly by this being a skill-based game. You will have to work for your wins, not buy them.

For many of us, ships are simply means to an end. I'm done with the traditional MMO. I'm not grinding to get a Retaliator to show it off. I want that Retaliator for a reason and I plan to use it. It's the using and what you're using it for that matter to me / us. Pledging to support the game and getting a cool ship is simply a way to both support the game and give us a new perspective through which we can experience the persistent universe. That's all. smile.gif

The entire point of being able to buy ships is to benefit people with full time jobs and not a ton of time to play. The people with jobs can buy the ships, and the people who don't can play for them.

This.
Well said!

Hexa, Chris Roberts has on several occasions said that he hates pay 2 win, and this will be a pure skill based game.
I bought the ships to support the development of this game, and because I kinda fell in love with them redface.gif

Cannot wait for the space module to be released. Glad they delayed it. Rather it not be a let down.

This is easily my most anticipated game on the PC biggrin.gif

WingMan's Hangover (not wingman's hangar) has been canceled due to noobs not knowing the #1 rule of chatroll.

Wingman dropped a bit of info today after the show. He let the Chatroll know (the obvious fact) that DFM would have a staggered release, as to not blow up the servers. Some one ran to the forums, twisted what Wingman said into "They will be allowing people in based on backer number, 10,000 per week."

to sum it all up, this was the last straw for CiG. They have told Eric no more hangover. mad.gif
