The DFM actually has quite a bit of optimizations, and Cryengine has quite a bit baked in from the factory. One of the PAX systems had a 660Ti in it, but Ben did note that (obviously) the more stuff in the module the harder that little card is going to work. A mid/low range card should be fine for DFM V1. The rest of the systems had 690s.

i see. well that's pretty cool if a 660ti did alright with the dfm. i know that's only the dfm. but still...

This has got to be the most overhyped publicly-funded game in the history of "kick-starter" era, and so far all I've seen is a cool helmet flip animation, indestructible average-looking space-ship, some pew-pew. Honestly it wasn't all that impressive and considering that during press-conferences devs. tend to show the most shiny, polished and overal best portion of the product that they have at the current moment, this is not impressive, not impressive at all. Show us explortaion? Nope, never heard of it, show us different planets? nope, never heard of it, but hey, let's see cryengine tech demo number 123123125.

trolling much? or just really ignorant about the stage of the game and how the creation/development process works (especially when it's all done out in the open)? so many words that i don't think i can be bothered to type incase i'm just wasting my time...

Not trolling, expressing my opinion, that in three years of development they can show more than mediocre dog-fighting, but hey, whatever makes people happy, if they succeed and deliver on all their grand promises - I will take off my skeptic hat.
Oh, and don't be bothered to type, I am sure you'll be wasting your time.

Because this is the Dogfighting module? As in, the exploration and other planets and stuff havent been put in the game.

Assuming you didn't watch the livestream, the Dogfighting module works in-fiction by being a videogame, like COD but with space ships. Called it Arena Commander, a nice nod to his past game. So would you be complaining COD doesn't have an exploration mode?

I'm guessing your just trolling, but I'll just tell you a couple reasons why I'm excited about the game as a whole.

  1. You get to explore a huge universe of a variety of star systems.
  2. You make or break your character with the choices you make in this MMORPG - like world
  3. You can fly ships as a bounty hunter, assassin, pirate, or ship cargo from one star system to another
  4. Upgrade your ship to handle certain roles
  5. Basically it's like a player-friendly EVE Online in which there is a slew of possibilities for your character to engage in.
  6. Dock another player's ship with a boarding party and loot the ship and kill its crew in first or third person view like a FPS

It's the game I've always wanted to play, but was never available until now. Certainly, you are a little uneducated of what this game actually includes. They show the "shiny" parts because this is a crowd-funded game in which 'modules' are released in stages until the game is 100% complete. It's not easy to start a game from nothing but an idea. We support it because we believe the game will be no like no other; combining FPS with Action/ Adventure elements, space simulators, RTS elements, dog fighting, and exploration.

I've only dropped $45 into this game (which gives me full content to the finished game, online and single player) in which has more going on than most extremely popular games that cost double that after DLC. There is no monthly charge and there is no pay-to-win aspect.

Bottom line: those modules you are referencing about exploring and planets are not completed yet. It's just like a game that tries to keep everything under wraps until a month before it's released, except Star Citizen only releases pieces and parts until they are worth showing the community. I don't want to see a broken exploration module in which I can't even actually explore.

To each his own I guess, Kriant but the point is that this is pre alpha footage that you saw. In how many games can you say that you have been able to see pre-alpha game builds?

The difference with this one is that the guy that is in charge has a vision of the game that he wants to build. Others (me included) trusted him to do what's right.

Average looking? LOLOLOLOL

this pre alpha space SIM looks better than most finished polished games. This is real footage not a tech demo.

Oh, and don't be bothered to type, I am sure you'll be wasting your time.

Three years? We are in the beginning of the second year. The first year started out with 10 people working in a basement on commercials/demos, they ended the 1st year with 30 employees. Now they are finally @ 220 some employees and finally kicking it into high gear. We are seeing the things that companies like EA are too scared/too smart to show people in early development. The dog fighting module is the foundation of the multiplayer function of star citizen. Everything else will be built in on top of DFM. The biggest consumer of time right now is them building their own netcode/server infrastructure. They couldn't find a netcode worthy of what they were looking to do, so they had to build their own.

YAY! Let's do the must generic thing possible! Lets call the person doubting & uneducated on the project a troll! Yay for winning! Because you know... When someone says something you don't agree with they are automatically a troll!

I don't expect some one who didn't grow up playing Chris Roberts' games to blindly understand. To understand the open development cycle of Star Citizen you first need to understand how closed development works, which 90% of gamers do not.

They have had to

A.) Rebuild cryengine from the ground up.
B.) build their own netcode
C.) build their own server infrastructure
D.) build the company from 10 people to 220+ people
E.) build their own physics
F.) Get all the employees in all 4-5 different locations around the world on the same page.

Things should really start spinning up now that they have finally hired on enough people to properly build the game in the typical 3-4 year time frame it takes to build a project from the ground up.

People often ask: What the hell have they been doing between December and now? Answer: Setting up the servers & building the netcode. Things you can't physically see.

Jumping on skeptics & labeling them as trolls makes you look like a blindly following fanboy. Anyone who has given CR money, from 5$ to 15,000 should be skeptical. Period.

Squadron 42: The single player & Co-OP campaign already has 600+ pages of story. They are using real time motion capture, & a ton of other technologies that take time to be ported into the Cryengine SDK. SQ42 will be rolled out in 10 episode packs. This release starts @ the end of this year/January of 2015.

The FPS/Boarding Module: Reports from community managers state that this is in a rough playable state @ this point in time, and will be released as the third version of the "DFM"

Exploration will be introduced after DFM V3.

After that the persistent universe alpha will start. Which should include all modules, and possibly the economy.

Beta persistent universe includes all modules + economy.

The game @ release (2016) will obviously only contain things that we have pledged for up to 22 million. You can basically call it the husk of the game. Other content will be added to it as it becomes available.

They aim to have the persistent universe out of beta 4 years from the start date. The kickstarter started on November 19th 2012 with 10 employees working in a residential basement. This is why I (and many others) believe the initial release will not happen until mid 2016. This would fall in line with the typical development cycle of a game being built from the ground up. It doesn't take this long to make Battle Field 9001 because it is already a functioning product in a previous iteration. A better example would be Watch Dogs. Watch Dogs will release after 5 years of production. Every bit of engine/software/middleware has been custom built by UBISOFT, much like Star Citizen is doing.
