yeh this kind of thing is just new for people. so i can understand some people's reactions to these things. normally all this stuff is done in secret for years. then we start getting shown things around the time when they think they have the game finished. we're really getting to see the whole process unfold. but because people have already seen some stuff, they've set their expectations way high at such an early stage. without really realising how early they're being shown stuff compared to normal. it's like when you listen to music. you just hear the finished product straight away. a lot of people have no idea about the creation process that it took to bring it to that level. how much time and work that took.. and this is a big game! it takes a a lot of time to bring this all together into a finished product... so yeh - we all need more realistic expectations for a given time frame thumb.gif

Mid 2016. I bet an aurora LN on it. Doesn't even matter for alpha backers.

Oh also... I'm thinking it costs 12-14,000,000 a year to keep them afloat. Many of them have said how they are making less than normal, but if you do theatg on the avg income x the number of employees it is easily 10m+ a year. Not to mention rent, supplies, systems ,and servers

Conservative estimates have us @ 60,000,000 by end of the year. The more liver estimates that figure in module release money surges show ~ 66m

Sure, toss my only ship around like it means nothing lol

I'm curious to see how they will operate at the projected level with some small in-game purchases for ship aesthetics/ decorations without a monthly fee. Will there be that many new players after release who will buy the game? There's no way they could sell that much merch to even help with the operational costs. Maybe the first year, but later?

$12-14mil is a lot of money to put into operational costs. The more I learn about SC, the more I'm willing to pay a monthly fee.

Plenty of people will be dumping money into the voyager direct. Buying curency. starter ships. Alos lots of people will be willing to pay the non-required subscription fees. Not to mention that we will be @ 1,000,000 unique accounts by or shortly after launch. I don't think maintaining the game will be much of a monetary issue. Server fees are no where as expensive as they use to be 10 years ago. Dev team will get chopped down to 100 people 6 months after launch and foundry 42 will be cranking out more single player games. I would be surprised if we don't see SQ42 end up on PS4 at some point in the next 3 years. Even non pay to win cash Shops make more money than monthly sub games.

On the subject of development: I thought they've started in 2011. And if they did have to re-build cryenginge from ground up, then that would explain why it takes so much time, if someone could provide info, where they are talking about rebuilding cryenginge 3, I would be grateful.

Yeah really I posted that on a really REALLY bad day and don't know why my attitude was so sour. So yeah the not sure why I was singled out here so much as I wasnt the only person who was upset.. but I was never really intending to have anyone take real offense. Basically the way you came in and presented yourself it seemed like you didn't really want an answer you simply were bashing the way things were. SO I am sorry.

Here is a section where Chris briefly touches on rebuilding the Crysis engine.
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/13432-Letter-From-The-Chairman-On-Dogfighting

This is one of the reasons that Dog Fighting was delayed. They could have released it on the original coding but the engine wasn't dealing with flight and everything they way they needed it to.

He also talks about it briefly in the recent PAX DFM release but I couldn't find the exact spot for you.

Hey guys! 200 Alpha slots left! So get your friends to get their first pledge!

Do we expect more alpha slots again or no?

+1...

The alpha slots them selves will NOT be re-inflated. HOW EVER, you CAN pay $5 per module once all alpha slots are gone. The only thing they didn't make clear is if you need to own a ship (that doesn't have access)

they plan to release further mission disks, thats like entire singleplayer campaigns every 2-3 years, next one is planned to be another military campaign "behind enemy lines" and i guess afterwards we get a privateer like campaign. all connected to persistent universe. so there will be another star citizen games released every few years, so money will be coming in

Hmm interesting well hopefully my lazy friends can at least come fight with me for $5! Ever since the PAX reveal I have felt like a kid on Christmas waiting to open his presents.

Thanks for a quick response guys biggrin.gif
