so you mean that if a journalist says he has anonymous source, he can print defamatory statements about a private person without having to back it up, with maybe a timestamped email copy of such statements?

also in us it might be harder, but in uk this is gonna be a slam dunk, as their libel laws are more favorable to plaintiff

At least we have something to talk about while we wait for more modules I guess... tongue.gif

That's a pretty crazy article on The Escapist though. Maybe it was an evil bait plan by Derek Smart to try and make CIG spend their money on legal fees so he could slate them further haha...

I don't think things over at CIG are all sunshine and roses like a lot of backers do, but this Escapist article just screams of "bitter former employee bs".

We don´t even know if the author of the article interviewed actual former CIG employees. After all, The Escapist doesn´t seem to know what an ID card is:

I have the same ID card for my office, it iwll let me into 15 different offices nation wide.

obviously that key & guy MUST be from CiG, because HID II cards are SO RARE!

people buying into that must have never spent a single moment in a corporate office. Those are the most widely used security cards IN THE WORLD.

one more thing, there's this awesome piece of software & hardware. This suite allows you to print out IDENTIFICATION STICKERS for those ID cards! AMAZING CONCEPT! I know... Funny enough, said ID stickers ALWAYS go on the side of the card branded w/ HID. Why? Because the back is flat, almost as if designed for these stickers, while the front has curved edges all the way around.

Tabloids do it all the time and some would argue mainstream leftist media as well. No big surprise.

I am tending to lean on the side of CIG. Like was stated above, I'm sure things aren't perfect and and CR is probably a bit of an arrogant jerk to work for but these people have a right to spend the money they earn the way they want.

No one complains if the CEO of McD's or Dow bring home $5 mil a year and buy a yacht with it. He's the CEO, president, owner(whatever his hat) and has a right to take a compensatory salary. Where does Smart think this money should go? The tech? The tech is getting paid for through licensing and salaries to create.

So much silliness.

I highly doubt Derek Smart is directly involved in this, highly.

Surely he, and the Escapists themselves would have figured out that this can go terribly wrong for a journalist to write and post slanderous articles; with no evidence or sources to back it up.

If the said company/business in question wishes to pursue this legally and this turns out to be total nonsense, this can go wrong, terribly wrong.
