Hey guys. As the years continue to roll by waiting for SC, I'm just wondering which similar games you guys have been playing? I tried Elite Dangerous and just didn't get into it. I'm playing X Rebirth at the moment, but it's not done much for me so far (nice visuals though). I was playing Evochron Mercenary a couple years back too..

I want something that you can play in first person view and just explore a beautiful universe (maybe land on planets), with a little bit of combat here there. I can't be bothered with crafting games like Space Engineers though (tried it and it's too time consuming). Multiplayer would be cool so you see other players around sometimes. Any suggestions? Thanks thumb.gif

i guess you'd have to go with that procedural generated new game called no man's sky.

i think its a console exclusive though? Not positive anymore.

Ah yeh, that's out next month aint it. Pretty sure it's gonna be out on pc as well. It's on Steam anyway.. I'll be looking out for reviews etc when it arrives. I'm not as convinced as some people though. They've barely shown anything you can do in that game other than explore a pointlessly massive world, probably alone because the world is so big tongue.gif

Couple of excerpts:
Quote:
Don't expect to find life on every planet, or even most of them, though: Hello Games has confirmed that there'll be simple life (plants, maybe small animals) on about 10 percent of the planets. Complex life will show up less frequently, on about 1 percent of the planets. But very complex life--civilizations, perhaps--will only appear on roughly 1 in 100 million planets.
Quote:
Speaking of extremely unlikely possibilities...

No Man's Sky has a shared universe, and Hello Games has said that it has a matchmaking style similar to Journey's. You can stumble across someone else working their way through the galaxy, or happen upon a planet already discovered by another explorer. But Hello Games makes it clear that you almost certainly will not find another person during the entire time you play the game.
Quote:
For there to be a 1% chance that at any moment two or more people are on the same planet, about 600 million people would have to be playing simultaneously.

Soooo you are almost certain to never find anyone the whole time you play the game! That and you will most likely find planets with only rocks on them, and if your really lucky some plants, hit the jackpot and you may find something resembling life. Are these developers retarded??? Sounds like a fun game, surely thats not going to get boring quickly! If they stick to these plans the game will be dead within a couple of months

Has anyone tried running this game on a GTX 1080? At 4K?

I've seen benchmarked where it runs Crysis 3 at 4k60 with everything maxed, but I also want to make sure it's good enough for SC so I don't end up having to upgrade again too soon.

On a 1080 the game will run anywhere from 60 to 12fps on star citizen. Right now, GPU power is not the issue - the framerate is limited by the server.

In its current state, it is very hard to say what hardware will be able to run the game maxed out at good framerates, because the game will be changing so much in the coming months/years.

This. Doesn't matter what rig you got because your performance varies wildly and will be very inconsistent.

This.

Some people will love this but the overwhelming majority will be bored with in a few months. However, I feel as thou their computations for players being interjected into the game will have a flaw and you'll likely see more than a few instances where people will run into each other.

Yeh, it seems like a pointlessly massive universe just for the sake of it because it sounds cool. If it means it's that unlikely for players to ever see eachother, really, what's the point..? When I've talked to people who are excited about the game, they always talk about that. But they can never explain to me how that's actually gonna make the game good. I don't like how that's the main focus. Seems like it might be a cover for a pretty shallow game. I still don't know what mechanics there actually are, other than flying around, having some battles and just aimlessly exploring these planets..?

I don't mean to be negative about the game, but that's just the impression I've got so far. It might turn out to be real good, so I'll save judgement for its release! Not too long until we find out now anyway smile.gif
