I'm not mad about anything. I don't care about the money. I'm just typing opinions on a message board about the topic of said message board. I don't want a refund, I want to wait impatiently for the game to come out smile.gif thanks for your advice though, it has been duly noted!

instead of making ships and bilking people out of money for them (even though it's not pay to win somehow to buy expensive ships with IRL money) i'd like them to stick to a deadline for once. I am concerned for the people that have dropped hundreds and thousands of dollars and the game is just now hitting releases that were slated for 2015. Why endlessly defend a company that has done nothing to earn your loyalty?

I am a pretty old backer too and I stopped going to echo chambers like the forums, this thread, or the reddit for any semblance of sanity. Every programmer and developer I personally know thinks that the development of this game has gone way off the rails and most of them are calling it semi vaporware. Yeah there is a tech demo in place but there are some glaring bugs and network code that cannot be fixed unless you blow it up and rebuild it from the ground up on a custom engine. Anyone who says different has no idea what they are talking about. If I was you I'd give up trying to convince people who live in a sunk cost fallacy that they were wrong. People hate to be told they're wrong.

I sunk 200 bucks into this game. I was wrong about what it would become. Will it officially release? Yeah, probably, but not nearly as what they promised and about 4 years later than they initially said it would. If i was you do what I did, just chalk it up as an expensive lesson and consider the money set on fire. If you want a space sim that's been delivering on the promises it made I'd try elite dangerous, the graphics aren't cryengine fancy, but it absolutely delivers on what it promised.

I do agree with what you are saying about the deadlines. I'm not even saying I don't agree with you about the tactics used. I'm also not saying to not have an opinion because that is an important part of the process. However, when all you do is complain about the negatives that are going on, which is what you and others are doing, it gets old and tiresome. I come here to see what others are doing and how things are progressing but all I have to read for several pages is you and a couple other complaining about every little detail. Please if you are really that unhappy start a thread that is the unofficial/official "I hate CIG and Star Citizen because XYZ" thread. Complain there and have your fun with those who agree with every little issue you have with the development process. I would love to join you in that thread and discuss what concerns I have. They are many and let me tell you I do have some concerns that mirror yours. I just choose to see the positives in this investment not sit and rant over and over about something that nobody on this forum can change.

Have you discussed this on the CIG forums? I know you said you don't want a refund but if you really have a monetary investment you should consider it and wait till 2021 wink.gif when the game launches. lol I am trying to be light hearted as I read my posts again and from an outside point of view yes I was being ridiculous. Here is why I endlessly support Chris. 1)Wing Commander games 2)Privateer 3)StarLancer 4)FreeLancer. I believe in Chris and I believe in his vision and no matter when this game launches I will never truly give up on him or his company. You could say well those games all came out a long time ago and i would have to agree with that but I still choose to stay the course.

x.x is always the next big upgrade, and the net code will be an epic struggle in all aspects of the game long into release. oh, and it's an MMO so server/network/netcode will always be your bottleneck, even with the most epic multithreaded GPU exploiting engine design ever made, & PC to boot. smile.gif

Well, given what they are trying to do has not really been attempted on the scale they are doing.

Here are some examples:

Star Citizen: Procedural Planets v2Star Citizen: Procedural Planets v2
As an avid gamer I am not worried at this point about how long it's taken it to develop.

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Released in 2011, Officially announced in 2008 but fans knew back in 2006 or so SWTOR was coming out.
World of Warcraft: Took 4-5 years to develop.
Guild Wars 2 - Development started in 2007 and released in 2012 (5 years).
Rift - Developed in 2006 and released in 2011 (5 years).

I am looking forward to the games development and hope it succeeds. Hell, only way we move forward in anything is when people start to take risks. If it fails it fails, but at least Roberts tried to make a game that really excited a good chunk of the gaming player base enough to help fund the game.[/quote]

sir, take a deep breath. Save those unloads for the undesirables on the RSI forum.

Star Marine is a module, modules will be fully integrated (kinda) into a final product. that's the gist of it at least. That's why you've got DFM, (arena comander) FSP, planet side, etc.

I've been here from day one. spare me the talking points.

you're clearly jumping the gun, thinking im an RSI forum using troll.

however, 3 of those titles are record breaking flops.

you don't want SC to end up like SWTOR, GW2, or RIFT.

GW2 is still limping along, but SWTOR & RIFT are both major flops with epic design flaws that were never resolved. I was into world 1st progression content in rift. weapon stone stacking to kill shiny coin dragon anyone? (Laythis?)

we all want the best possible product.

what we're saying is, young bloods, take a deep breath and a step back for a minute. We've been running these circles for ages now. You're just now reposting what we originally debated when this was still a 25,000,000 project.

My point was not to say those games were top notch, but they ARE considered AAA MMO releases. I was not pointing out how successful or flops they were, only to illustrate that a AAA MMO tends to take 4-6 years. Nothing more, nothing less. Stating a game as AAA doesn't mean, at least to me, as being a success. Rather, the rating of AAA revolves around the money and resources poured into it. Again, that is the only premise I am making about time/money when it comes to a AAA game, not if they were a flop or a smash hit.

Being a AAA game apparently, to you, is something that must be a success. Which to me, it isn't and is where we have to agree to disagree.

Lastly, please do not infer things I never stated in my post or could be inferred. Again, my argument was solely on time invested in a AAA release, as detailed by my own criteria of money/resources and time and not if the game was a flop or a miss. As nowhere in my post did I indicate that these games were huge successes or that I am avid players of them. I tried both, I no longer play GW2 because they are refusing to really fix some bugs and issues to the game that brought me there (World vs. World). And I do play SWTOR but more as a single player game since the story lines in them are pretty well done. Again, I SWTOR has it's failings as an MMO, but I can argue as far as stand-alone single player type of game does well.

Standard AAA for non refresher games is typically 3-5 years, yes.

SC's issue is feature n scope creep.

They should'a drawn a line 30,000,000 ago saying "THIS IS IT FOR FINAL!" With all following promises being post release.

Just an opinion.

Either way it quit being the game they told us it was going to be for those of us that have been around from the beginning quite a while ago, that's ok tho. CR is quite the politician.

This I agree with. For those who I have been in discussion with, I am not saying things haven't changed. I am saying some of the features complained about were part of the original scope but they were definitely expanded upon. Skupples is correct in every aspect of what he has posted and for the feature and scope creep that is a major complaint that is legitimate. However, I still stand by this "Complaining about it here doesn't do any backer any good." You are not saying anything that hasn't been already hashed out on previous pages of this thread or numerous pages at the CIG forums. I'm not saying what you said was wrong. I am saying we've been over it a hundred times already and posting it here makes little to no difference at. Not to mention I am trying to stay positive on this project even when things get pushed back ever furthering us from a launch date.

Also to call this vaporware is really a misnomer. Vaporware usually has zero product and never shows it's face. However, SC has some product regardless of it's state there is a somewhat playable game there. So, yes at times I do take some offense because as Skupples stated earlier we never like to be wrong or even told we are wrong. Whether that is ego or just plain human instinct I don't know. Either way I do have my concerns but I choose to not voice them as it doesn't further any discussion and it doesn't help the situation. All the negativity does is give ammunition to those who want SC to flame out and fail. I don't want it to fail, I want it to thrive and actually become something even if it end up a year or two later than projected I would like to at least get my money out of it. lol thumbsupsmiley.png

edited because I can't read my own writing sometimes. lol

Just dropping by checking the mood. It was bad when I was last here a year ago (toxic in regards to being supportive of the game development).

It's calmed down here after the "concerns" thread was made. So much so that it has stagnated a bit, but we're still here.
