Star Citizen is issuing refunds again. I started mine in September and finally got it today. They paused in late October with the excuse that they were 'working hard on 3.0' (whatever that has to do with issuing my refund), but have since dropped that narrative.
At one time i was all in on this project, and I mean ALL in. I'm staring at my physical 12" constellation model that I bought for a hundred bucks back in 2014. I backed early in 2013 (it seems so friggin' long ago now - another lifetime) and built all kinds of ideas in my head of what this game would be. CR kept piling on stretch goals that made the game seem more and more like my dream game. The money was flowing and the promises flowed even quicker. I started with a basic Aurora and Military Super Hornet package, and shortly after that bought a rear-admiral constellation package. I even disregarded all common sense and upgraded it to the vaunted new 'super-ship', the Constellation Phoenix. I would watch every single Wingman's hanger (anyone been around long enough to remember that show?), 10 for the chairmen etc. I would be glued to the screen for every live-stream to see the newest module or ship.
Then at some point in 2014 it all came crashing down and I had my awakening. CR promised Star Marine in weeks, not months. The Banu Merchantman (among many other ships) quickly went from 'it's coming soon' to faded completely from the picture. The Constellation went through iteration after iteration without good explanations. The promises made early on started to seem highly improbable based on CR's own words. (CR reading questions on 10tfC and answering them like he had never even thought about how to address a certain situation that may come up). Dropping ilfonic and letting the community blame them for what happened with Star Marine, and then later coming back in an interview and giving a mea culpa (they forgot to let Ilfonic know that they changed a bunch of things). Richard Gariott explaining angular momentum in space to Chris Roberts because he doesn't understand it (LOL) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxxlrKlLO9g
. The list goes on. In my opinion the project has actually gotten worse over the last 2 years. The only drop last year was 2.6.x? There's been no substantial slice that gives you promise that they're on the right track.
The most damning thing in all of this is the fact that I haven't even logged into my hangar in over a year. Maybe longer. There's no reason to. I suspect that damning fact plays out across a much wider swath of the 'citizens' who bought into this project. I'm guessing the logged in and playing metrics are dismal and atrocious.
Anyway, glad to be out. Sold my Phoenix/Rear Admiral pkg on Ebay last year for 450 bucks (lost a couple hundred). Now I have a few hundred extra back after the refund and I can cut a clean loss from this thing. A dream at one point, but never anything more. Just a dream that's never going to happen.Edited by evensen007 - 11/15/17 at 1:21pm
