7970 crossfire issues - Page 2

Before I thought perhaps it could be a windows error, but this is clearly not the case as the exact same thing is happening again. To reiterate, when I have crossfire disabled, all software (furmark, gpu shark, gpu-z) detect both graphics cards, and when running a stress test only 1 card is tested while the other one gets no usage, as expected. I get good FPS with CF disabled, however when i enable it, the second card goes undetected in all of the software, and i get significantly less FPS.
Are you getting usage in games?

For me I only enable crossfire if I need the 2nd gpu. When I enable it, sometimes the clocks go down to 425/600 ( or some other low number ) and I have to reapply my clocks in MSI AB. If you're only having this issue during furmark I wouldn't worry about it. It's a terrible program anyway.

Nowadays, the best stress test programs are the Heaven benchmark and also a demanding game like BF3.

Do NOT use Furmark. It will do more harm than good.

Hold on - before you go all ulps, god knows what else ps, etc., do your basic check first.

1. Run your single card alone if you have not done it yet. Just to make sure the card you got is good
2. Make sure CF bridge is nice and secure
3. Make sure your game, benchmarks, etc. are in full screen
4. Make sure you have not overclocked the cards (yet)

Run a full screen benchmark like Unigine Valley and compare the scores.

All of my benchmarks have been full screen. Have already tried Unigine as well.

Also, after thinking it could be my motherboard, i flashed the uefi bios to the latest version, and the problem continues. However the FPS im getting when CF is enabled seems to be slightly higher, but still less than when i have it disabled. Perhaps the motherboard is defective?

Its like this in games too, even to a more severe degree. Every game I play i get significantly less FPS when CF is enabled, sometimes in games like BF3 or arma 2 i get less than half the FPS. Every single stress test or game i Play, performance is decreasing with CF enabled.

I have already tried both cards alone. They are working fine as long as they arent in CF

I have already done this, as well as trying a second CF bridge just in case the one it came with was faulty.

Ok and to reiterate what has happened since the BIOS update, all my FPS in games and stress tests has improved slightly, but I am still getting less FPS with CF enabled.

Whether I am playing games or doing stress tests I am still getting less FPS, and even a bit of a screen tearing type effect just when im on my desktop when CF is enabled. My theory for why I am getting less FPS is kinda simple. When CF is enabled, only 1 card is detected, and the card that is seeing usage, is only getting half of the assigned usage because the drivers see it as in CF and will split the usage between the cards. That part I think makes sense. However why the second card goes undetected once CF is enabled, then is seen when it is disabled is making absoletely no sense to me.

Hey, I am just bumping this since I basically have the same problem, although I am running 2 x 7950s. The only difference is that one of them is clocked at 925Mhz and the other is 810Mhz. Did all the things mentioned above as possible solutions but nothing works.

I am using 3DMark to test things and I get 50 FPS in one of the tests. The other give even lower results.

Any ideas what might cause this?

OP have you fixed this issues?

I use HD5770 in crossfire configuration. If you want to use gpu shark use v0.6.9 version or below. I have noticed any version after that only shows one gpu. You can find gpu shark v0.6.9 here http://www.geeks3d.com/20130308/gpu-shark-0-6-9-videocard-gpu-information-utility/
I hope this can be of use to you.
