Replacement for Gamecon 780 Headset.

Thread Starter
So today my Gamecon 780 headset snapped after 8 months of use. I most likely won't be able to RMA it since I have no idea where the receipt is as it was a gift from Christmas, and the box is has probably been thrown away.

What would be a good replacement for me to buy? I loved the 780 as it's 7.1 surround sounded excellent and was pretty comfortable, but I know from reviews I've read that they do snap fairly easily. The mic on it was also very good. Getting a new 780 would be about $76 from Walmart, so I'll leave that as a price point. I think I would like to go with Plantronics again. I used them for music and gaming, so I need a balance of both. I do need a mic on them too as I use teamspeak and skype while gaming with brothers/friends.

Edit: I might as well try some glue when I get the chance next weekend. Not likely to work, but it seriously can't get any worse than it is now lol.

As many would say, get some decent stereo cans. The faux surround headsets might sound nice, but they don't compare to sound staging and quality of stereo cans. I have Audio Technica AD700's and they're really, really great. I used to like using the surround headsets too, until I got some decent stereo cans, and the surround headsets SUCK in comparison.

Oh, didn't mention in OP, but I need a mic on whatever I'm going to buy. Desktop mics are the worst. I'll add that to OP.

The problem with that is that by requiring a headset, you're limiting your options to mostly lower quality phones (there are some decent exceptions, Sennheiser makes some for example).

I use an AntLion ModMic for mine, and it's the best mic I've used. It's a detachable boom mic that sticks to the side of either of the cans. Zalman also makes a small clip-on mic that many like to use.

One more thing, your Gamecom's broke after not much usage. Another problem with gaming headsets. I had some Razer Cacharias, which had decent sound, but the small thin wires going into the ear cup from the head band ripped out one day, and the other can became very loose and rattle-y.

To each his own, just my $.02. wink.gif

I wouldn't consider myself an audiophile, as the headset I was using sounded perfectly fine to me. Heck, even my 4 year old $23 speakers sound good to me too. I'm perfectly fine just getting another surround headset. Also, I've had a clip on mic before and it was terrible lol.

"Ignorance is a bliss", that defines how I see sound quality.
After using my DT770 and MS40 speakers for 1 day I was able to tell that my old 5.1 headset and 4.1 speakers were absolutely horrible. Even the 37$ Superlux headphones that I bought few weeks ago shoves them to somewhere where sun never shines.
