Asus N56U problem

Thread Starter
I am getting 98 mbps with a direct connection to my modem. I am getting around 30 mbps wired to the router and the same 30 mbps wireless from upstairs or downstairs. I just updated the firmware hoping that could solve the problem. The problem came about because today the router has been acting up and giving me less than 1 mbps. After rebooting and power cycling it has gotten better but not much considering that last wired was around 80 mbps and wireless was around 50 mbps.

I tried even using different ethernet cables and repositioning the router but that's not working.

We did get a new TV that has google tv in it yesterday but that can't be it. That is the ONLY thing that has changed.

I forgot to add the RT in the model name. It's the RT N56U

what is your wireless access point, assuming this is what you're concerned with?

Edit: Asus N56u, being a little more descriptive is good.
if you have no problems directly connecting to your modem, is the router under warranty?

what happens if you sit right next to the router, you still get poor speeds?

the access point i think is the n56u but i am not brushed up on internet terminology.

i got it 4 months ago from newegg and it has been flawless until now. i do have a synology nas on it btw if that matters

i still get 30 even right next to it

it also has 12 clients.

my phone, 3 roku players, 2 wifi printers, a ps3, xbox 360, 4 computers, and a smart tv.

the problem is that all of them are either off or in sleep mode except for my laptop right now. but do they still use up bandwidth when off or sleeping?

it's back down to 8 mbps now. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

I just did a factory reset and that helped a lot but it is still giving me 6 mbps d/l on my PS3. My upload is actually faster than my download at this point. The wired LAN gives me about 98 mbps compared to 30 that it was giving me last night, but the wifi is no better.

I believe interference nearby is causing the WiFi to perform poorly. You might wanna try change the channel to 13 and bandwidth to 40 MHz and see how the goes?
