In need of a good mouse for FPS

Thread Starter
I've been using a Razer Naga for the past few years due to MMORPG's, but that genre no longer appeals to me and I'd like to get a mouse that is better in terms of tracking.

I found a picture where the naga came in at "****" and the g400 and razer death adder was "god tier", but I dont really trust a random picture and would like some feedback on the topic.

I've tried earlier versions of the deathadder and they fit comfortable in my hand. Is that the way to go? would it require a special mousepad?

Holy balls, never listen to any "Tier list" when it comes to mice. There's so much personal preference in this decision that one mouse might be perfect for one guy but horrible for the next.

That being said: The list at hand isn't that far from my own opinion in terms of the worst mice, but for example the rating on the DAs is in stark contrast to most people on this very forum where it's 3G > 3.5G > 4G. Also there are mice missing in the picture that have brilliant tracking like the Roccat Savu.

If I had to recommend mice based on how good their tracking is (for me!) I'd say:

Zowie FK
Roccat Savu
Roccat Kone Pure Optical
Razer Deathadder (3G or 3.5G)
G400v2

I have first hand experience with these and can recommend them all in terms of sensor performance. There might be many more good mice but I didn't try them so I can't recommend (like DA 4G for example, never bothered with it). The shape however is subjective, so best pick one of these that fits you well.

I think that picture is inaccurate, my main home PC uses that Microsoft Wheel Mouse 1.1a and it feels bad and slow for me and I borrowed the ZOWIE (I think it was EC2? It looks very similar) EC2 eVo from a friend whilst I was saving up for a replacement and I just found it impossible to use in the FPS' I played (Gmod, Metro 2033, Mass effect and so on...) And to say the RAT's are crap? I love the features on the mouse, it keeps me on top! biggrin.gif

Totally disagree with this list. I had a Razer DA 2013 and switched it for a Mionix Naos 8200. The sensor is comparable even though the Mionix is not optical and the Mionix is the most comfortable mouse I've ever used. I personally recommend the Naos to anyone who is looking for a good mouse.

Good sensor alone doesn't make the mouse itself good. I'm playing Quake live online and I've had a DA2013 and WMO1.1a, both of which are considered to have good sensors.

The thing about the Deathadder is that it fits my hand exceptionally well, when my palm is resting on it and I'm performing mundane and/or slow actions. But from my experience the DA would suit only high sensitivity/high accel players, because I found myself unable to do fast swipes with it due to the tilted right side which was slipping from my fingers. The WMO is an OK mouse (actually not so well-built, but the quality is exceptional for 10$), but low malfunction speed is the thing to consider. Currently using a Kinzu v2, the hadware acceleration curve is crazy but bearable (constant), and the shape is what I like the most.

And I do not completely agree with the "mice tier" list given above.

These tiered lists are worthless because we don't know who's making them and what kind of gaming or mice experience they have, plus the descriptions are flimsy at best and not backed up by any data.

Worse yet, the author claims any mouse absent from his list as of 04/05/2013 is ****, so he essentially admits there are some mice he doesn't even have knowledge of, yet are automatically bad? This alone discredits his work completely. Plus he's apparently never heard of the CM Storm Recon, Roccat Savu or Razer Abyssus, which existed long before the provided date and are considered some of the best performers.

Don't pay attention to these.
