For a very long time now, I only use PeerBlock 1.1 for all my everyday needs.

Also I would suggest you installing Spybot, update it and immunize the system but don't run TeaTimer because it'll slow down loading of apps and files because it checks them before usage.

Get also the following:
- ComboFix
- SUPERAntiSpyware

But don't load them on start-up, you'll just use them when you get malware or other crap. Still for daily use you'll live fast and furiously with just PeerBlock, though have all the lists checked and keep it updated along with Spybot.

A good practice is to store all your important files, documents on a separate or second drive so that if ever you get hit you can just reload an image or reformat just the OS drive and your files are still intact on the other drive. Just don't accidentally delete or re-image over the second drive and you're okay for a very, very long time.
