Question about 6+2pin to 8pin VGA connector

I just noticed that I might have done something quite silly. I just noticed that I plugged in my male 8pin connector into a female 6pin connector. The other side of that 6pin connector is the 6+2pin which is what's needed for my 780. My question and concern is the 8pin make being put into the 6pin. Is that giving my card less power than it needs since 2 of the pins are free?

Thanks in advance!

Is it an extension? The extra 2 pins on the 8 pin PCI-E connector are both ground so it's possible that you may get errors if you try to push it in games and it probably won't overclock.

You've been lucky as it's possible to connect a female 6 pin PCI-E plug into a male 8 pin PCI-E socket in 2 orientations, one of which is likely to short out the card.

Yeah, it's an extension. And now that you mention it I have noticed that my card barely overclocks. I've also seen some game crashes, but not many. I'm going to swap it out as soon as I get home. Thankfully I noticed it this morning. I can't believe I even did that D:

It happens dont worry, most likely everything will work fine once you get it plugged in right. But yea its surprising that you even got it to work.
